What now?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Allegra Spender balked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following much debate over whether the independent MP for Wentworth should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afr.com\/policy\/economy\/allegra-spender-should-back-not-block-cgt-reform-20260601-p602tr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">back<\/a> or vote against\u00a0 Labor\u2019s tax reforms (with a Labor majority in the House, the crossbench didn\u2019t have the power to actually block them), Spender last week voted with the Coalition and One Nation against the omnibus bill, citing threats to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZJ_lK-ATp5\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">innovation<\/a>\u201d and a lack of substantial income tax cuts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So too did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Parliamentary_Business\/Chamber_documents\/HoR\/Divisions\/details?id=2711\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zali Steggall, Sophie Scamps, Nicolette Boele and Kate Chaney<\/a> (plus Andrew Gee, Rebekha Sharkie, Dai Le and Bob Katter for that matter), leaving just Monique Ryan, Helen Haines, Andrew Wilkie, and Greens MP Elizabeth Watson-Brown backing Labor\u2019s bill.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Allegra Spender balked.
