The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams defeated the Night \u2019n Day Otago Nuggets 87-72 in their first meeting of the season.<\/p>\n
It was billed as one of the more intriguing matchups of the year, with Canterbury\u2019s high-powered offence facing an Otago team built on defence. The teams traded baskets early and the Rams held only a two-point lead after the first quarter, but the game shifted in the second. Canterbury\u2019s offence found its rhythm and began to overpower the Nuggets\u2019 defensive structure.<\/p>\n
Taylor Britt had 16 first-half points to help the Rams take a nine-point lead into halftime, and from there Canterbury stayed in control. Otago could not find the offence that had carried it to four early-season wins, while the Rams\u2019 big three of Britt, Brown and Andrew drove the result home.<\/p>\n

The Rams were beaten 100-97 by the Jadcup Auckland Tuatara in a high-quality contest that was of finals quality.<\/p>\n
Isaac Davidson opened the game on a tear, scoring 11 points in the first few minutes to give Auckland early control. The Tuatara built a solid lead as the Rams worked their way into rhythm, with Canterbury leaning on the scoring of Britt and Choh as the game developed.<\/p>\n
Auckland led by 10 at halftime, but the Rams responded. They matched the Tuatara 26-26 in the third quarter before the Tuatara looked like they had finally wrestled control of the match when they stretched the lead out again late in the fourth quarter. But a final surge pulled the lead back to make it a one possession game. Down three, Canterbury had the final look to send the game to overtime, but could not convert.<\/p>\n

The Nuggets were beaten 96-90 by the Mills Albert Wellington Saints in the capital.<\/p>\n
Otago started brilliantly, putting up 32 points in the first quarter behind another strong shooting performance from Rusbatch. The Nuggets looked ready to steal a road win early, but Wellington responded in the second quarter and tied the game 46-46 at halftime.<\/p>\n
But from there the Saints would take control. Elijah Pepper sparked a major scoring run to begin the third quarter and Wellington pushed the margin out in the fourth. The Nuggets stayed within touch distance, but could not reclaim the momentum as the Saints defended home court.<\/p>\n

This looks to be a clash between Otago\u2019s defensive base and Canterbury\u2019s offensive weight.<\/p>\n
