vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/a\/287093\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For his second GTWC Pro-Am race win, Pires brought the #44 Tigani Motorsport Mercedes-AMG home just over 1s ahead of Steve Brooks\/Ryan Wood\u2019s Team BRM Audi.<\/p>\n<p>The win leaves Pires and Leitch in the Pro-Am championship lead by just nine points.<\/p>\n<p>Jaxon Evans\/Elliott Schutte rounded out the podium in the ARGT Ferrari 296, ahead of the #66 Tigani Mercedes of Jayden Ojeda\/Paul Lucchitti.<\/p>\n<p>After moving from 13th to eighth on the opening lap, Alex Peroni and Mark Rosser rounded out the top five for Team BRM.<\/p>\n<p>Leitch took the lead with a decisive move around the outside at Turn 1 on the opening lap, shutting the door on teammate Oscar Targett as the latter struggled for grip on the damp surface.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Wood and Evans both rocketed through the pack on the first lap, each making their way into the top five as the field jockeyed for position.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Buchan\u2019s #23 Zagame Autosport Ferrari was left battered and bruised in the melee, being forced wide twice in consecutive corners and forced to nurse a punctured right-rear tyre.<\/p>\n<p>Leitch set about building a margin in clean air over Targett, while Broc Feeney and Wood closed up on the #56 Mercedes-AMG.<\/p>\n<p>Wood attempted a late move on Feeney at Turn 4, making contact with the reigning champion\u2019s left rear corner.<\/p>\n<p>The pair continued line astern with no damage, however that allowed Leitch to build a comfortable margin.<\/p>\n<p>Wood and Feeney\u2019s squabble assisted the leader to build a big enough gap to negate the additional 5s of pit stop time earned by a third place finish in Race 1.<\/p>\n<p>The battle erupted when Wood finally worked his way past with a forceful move at Turn 5, and slight contact resulted in Feeney running wide on exit.<\/p>\n<p>When the field cycled through the pit lane, Pires was able to hold the lead despite the extra pit stop time, however Schutte emerged directly behind the Mercedes.<\/p>\n<p>A snap oversteer moment through Turn 2 in the following laps allowed Brooks through to 2nd place.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Trouble struck the #1 Audi as the driver\u2019s door would not close once Brad Schumacher was aboard, de-railing a potential podium result.<\/p>\n<p>The team battled with the door latch as the car plummeted down the order, eventually resorting to tape.<\/p>\n<p>Schumacher was back in the pit lane a lap later, however, as the tape failed to hold.<\/p>\n<p>The team then elected to replace the door entirely, sending Schumacher back out almost three laps down.<\/p>\n<p>With the 15s success penalty for winning Race 1, Targett and Justin Tigani came home in sixth from pole position.<\/p>\n<p>Valentino Astuti\/Darren Currie (#2 Audi), Will Davison\/Renee Gracie (#181 Ferrari), Tony D\u2019Alberto\/Adrian Deitz (#93 Lamborghini), and Luke Youlden\/Nathan Halstead (#71 Porsche) rounded out the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>Feeney and Schumacher dropped to 13th position outright, but crucially scored a single point for finishing 10th in class.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brendon Leitch and Sergio Pires took their second GT World Challenge victory of the season at Queensland Raceway,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":735292,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[572],"tags":[64,63,131633,806,805,803,804,7499,254712,85],"class_list":["post-735291","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-motosport","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-gt-world-challenge-australia","tag-motor","tag-motor-sports","tag-motosport","tag-motosports","tag-slot4","tag-speedseries","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/735291","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=735291"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/735291\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/735292"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=735291"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=735291"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=735291"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
