{"id":737084,"date":"2026-06-15T01:12:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T01:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/737084\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T01:12:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T01:12:10","slug":"interest-rates-forecast-predictions-big-four-banks-unite-on-interest-rate-call-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/737084\/","title":{"rendered":"Interest rates forecast, predictions: Big four banks unite on interest rate call this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The big four banks are united on what will happen to the national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/interest-rates-5yo\" class=\"sc-iihzTf dklAlE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interest rate<\/a> this week, but beyond that, opinions remain divided.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/reserve-bank-of-australia-619\" class=\"sc-iihzTf dklAlE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reserve Bank of Australia<\/a> board meets today and tomorrow and Westpac, ANZ, CBA, and NAB all predict it will decide to leave interest rates unchanged at a years-long high of 4.35 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Two people on the phone walking in opposite directions outside the Reserve Bank of Australia, Sydney. The photo is taken with a deliberate blur.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2afd3abd0ba76376a27dd2eb2b7481d30953c7d3.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">The RBA is tipped to leave rates on hold this week.\u00a0iStock<\/p>\n<p>The pause would follow three consecutive hikes in the national cash rate, as the RBA seeks to quash inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Reserve Bank is almost certain to leave the cash rate on hold next Tuesday for the first time in 2026,\u201d Canstar.com.au data insights director Sally Tindall said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cANZ is the final big four bank to shift its stance on the cash rate, moving from expecting an extended period of hold to now forecasting rate cuts on the horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, when those rate cuts will come remains a matter of difference.<\/p>\n<p>ANZ has updated its forecast to include two cuts of 0.25 per cent to the cash rate in 2027, taking it down to 3.85 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, ANZ had expected rates to hold steady at 4.35 per cent for a prolonged period.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Westpac says it expects the RBA to push the cash rate up in August and September this year, with cuts only to come in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>A 0.25 per cent increase in August would increase monthly repayments by $92 for somebody with a $600,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/property-market-60w\" class=\"sc-iihzTf dklAlE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mortgage<\/a> over 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>That would amount to a $364 monthly hike so far in 2026, with three more RBA meetings yet to come before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big four now all have pencilled in cash rate cuts, but they\u2019re still a long way from singing from the same song sheet,\u201d Tindall said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis divide highlights just how uncertain the economic outlook remains.
