<\/a><\/p>\nRicciardo was riding outside Cairns when he crashed and suffered a collarbone injury, according to PlanetF1<\/a>.<\/p>\n The report said he was taken to Mossman Hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile details are scant at present, Ricciardo is understood to have been in good spirits while being treated for his injury,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n Ricciardo has been largely out of the public eye since being dropped by Red Bull almost 12 months ago.<\/p>\n Occasional social media posts have given a glimpse into his life of travel, while he spoke in July at a UK karting event that bears his name<\/a>.<\/p>\n Similar comments on life in retirement followed on the Gold Coast this week.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, I haven\u2019t been shaving my face. The beard is my comfort right now,\u201d the 36-year-old told Channel 7\u2019s Mel McLaughlin.<\/p>\n \u201cI had a fallout with my barber and then I lost my razor. It\u2019s been a tough six months.\u201d<\/p>\n Ricciardo said he has been \u201ctrying to figure out who I am\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve lived this crazy, high-speed life for so long, and I just sat into a little bit of stillness. I suddenly wasn\u2019t always surrounded by a tonne of people giving their opinions and thoughts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of time, I\u2019ve done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn\u2019t get mauled by a grizzly, which was a bonus.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been trying to figure out who I am other than this race car driver.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I\u2019m trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.\u201d<\/p>\n Wearing casual clothes and sipping a glass of whisky, Ricciardo addressed his F1 axing, saying: \u201cThis is it\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI never thought I would have this career. I never thought I\u2019d be here, you know? That\u2019s the truth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, my dream was to be world champion, and there were years along the way where I genuinely felt like it was gonna happen.<\/p>\n \u201cI got close, that\u2019s OK. If I were a world champion sitting here today, would it change how I feel or how I view myself, or anything like that? I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe my ego would be big.
