GREAT’S BOMBSHELL ENGLISH TRADE MAIL

Four-time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis has tipped a shock Tim English trade.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s On the Couch on Monday night, Lewis revealed he’d be “surprised” if English was at Whitten Oval in 2027 and that rival clubs are circling the star ruckman.

English is contracted at the Bulldogs until 2029 after he knocked back rival interest including from his home state Western Australia and penned a five-year extension in April 2024.

Lewis has mail that there’s now a live trade watch on English, who turns 29 in August, in a season knee and concussion setbacks have limited him to nine games for the 8-6 Dogs.

“The story to follow now is, will Tim English be there next year?,” Lewis posed on Monday night.

“I think there’s strong word around, questions are being asked at other clubs. He’s gettable.

“It would surprise me if he’s there next year.”

Asked where he’ll be next year, Lewis replied with a smile: “Can’t say that.”

He later added: “I’m not set on one particular team. But I know the question is being asked.”

Tigers champion Jack Riewoldt questioned how it could impact the race for star free agent Zak Butters, who the Dogs are favourites for.

“So you’re saying English is not there and they’re heavily linked to Zak Butters,” Riewoldt said.

“Do you think that would affect the Zak Butters conversation, because I look at Zak Butters and go ‘why would I want to go to the Bulldogs currently when they’ve got Marcus Bontempelli, they’ve got Ed Richards, they’ve got Ryley Sanders coming through as well’.

“They don’t have a backline, and I would be prioritising a key back over Zak Butters.”

Lewis responded: “I think in an ideal world they get Zak Butters, and absolutely you would never deny your club the chance to get Zak Butters, and Bontempelli moves to a half back.

“I think it prolongs his career, it fixes some of the issues that they’ve got down in that back line, in terms of ball users, and you get an absolute A grader.”

PIES CLOSE IN ON NEALE WITH JUICY FRONT-ENDED OFFER

Collingwood is reportedly closing in on Brisbane star Lachie Neale with a lucrative three-year deal that would pay the dual Brownlow medallist $2 million over the first two seasons.

Neale is weighing up his future and a potential move away from the reigning premiers in free agency, with interest from multiple clubs including the Magpies and his ex-side Fremantle.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s On the Couch on Monday night, Ralph expanded on his report that Collingwood is “blowing away” rival suitors for the 33-year old with its offer that’s estimated to be worth between $2.5-$3 million in total.

“Collingwood very much in the race for Lachie Neale, and their rivals expect they will eventually offer him a three-year deal. And potentially the first two years of that might be worth as much as $2 million,” Ralph said.

“It does explain why he will eventually rebuff rivals like Fremantle, why he’s not intent on going west to be closer to his family. I can tell you the Dockers at one stage this season believe they had his contract, a deal of about two years at $600,000 (a season).

“Now the first two years would be very significant at Collingwood, the third year would still be haggled about.”

Ralph added that Collingwood is “absolutely adamant” they haven’t met with Neale.

“They are respecting the process and have not put any dollar figures to him. But having sold the Brisbane family home and with a financial settlement imminent, it’s obvious now he is very keen to cash in on the last two or potentially three years of his AFL career,” he said.

“He turns 34 in May so if it was a deal of this scope, it would certainly help Collingwood bridge the gap if they’re able to top up with a Lachie Neale, and use some of their draft picks to try and extend out that premiership window.”

The two-time premiership winner has family ties to South Australia, while Neale’s kids are based in Western Australia with his wife Jules, after their split.

A great has made a bombshell trade call on a Bulldogs star.
