University of Southern Indiana Men\u2019s Basketball\u00a0will meet\u00a0the University of Evansville in a regular-season game for the first time this November.\u00a0The\u00a0announcement\u00a0was made Monday morning\u00a0by\u00a0the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, in partnership with Old National Bank,\u00a0at the Ford Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a meaningful moment for our\u00a0University\u00a0and for the Evansville community,\u201d said USI President Steven J. Bridges.\u00a0\u201cWe appreciate the Evansville Regional Sports Commission and their partners for creating an event that showcases the vibrant spirit of our region and enriches our campuses and community by bringing neighbors together in a positive way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The two teams will compete in the River City Classic at the Ford\u00a0Center\u00a0Saturday, November 7. The contest will be a neutral site game, with the court setup, game operations and seating arrangements reflecting a true neutral-site environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Season ticket holders from both universities will have an opportunity to reserve their seats before tickets are made available to the\u00a0general public.\u00a0Additional ticket information will be provided at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n
USI and UE have met in four\u00a0very\u00a0competitive\u00a0exhibitions since 2004, with UE gaining the upper hand in\u00a0each of\u00a0the\u00a0four contests. Two games\u00a0went to\u00a0overtime, with the 2008 meeting being decided in double-overtime (71-67 at Roberts Stadium).\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are excited to compete against a great local program with a great coach in David (Ragland),\u201d USI Head Coach Stan Gouard\u202fsaid. \u201cAnytime two local teams get a chance to\u00a0play\u00a0each other,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0an added level of excitement. I know that our fans look forward to it, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0happy to be a part of an event that shines the spotlight on both programs, and the city of Evansville.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Screaming Eagles and Purple Aces have met in several sports since USI made the transition to Division I prior to the 2022-23 season. The two schools have met head-to-head as NCAA Division I foes in\u00a0baseball,\u00a0men\u2019s and\u00a0women\u2019s\u00a0golf,\u00a0men\u2019s\u00a0soccer,\u00a0softball,\u00a0men\u2019s and\u00a0women\u2019s swimming & diving and volleyball. USI has also competed against UE in cross country as well as track & field.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate all the community partners that came together to make this event happen,\u201d said USI Vice President and Director of Athletics\u202fJon Mark Hall.\u202f\u201cBringing the community together for an event like this is important to us and our goal is to continue to use intercollegiate athletics in this manner. From a scheduling standpoint, it is important for our programs to schedule\u00a0in order to\u00a0prepare them for OVC\u00a0play\u00a0and this game does that. We hope our\u00a0USI\u00a0students, alumni\u00a0and the entire Tri-state community come out to the Ford Center on November 7 to see the first DI\u202fregular season\u00a0Men\u2019s\u00a0Basketball game between USI and UE.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
