Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Jon Jones has chimed in with his reaction to Ciryl Gane beating Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250.

Jon Jones is heralded by many as one of the greatest fighters to have ever competed in the sport of mixed martial arts. A number of fans and experts deem him the MMA G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time).

On the other hand, Alex Pereira, a former two-division UFC champion whom Jones had called out back in 2024, made his heavyweight debut at UFC Freedom 250 a few hours back.

Incidentally, it came against Ciryl Gane, an opponent Jones made his heavyweight divisional debut against and submitted in round one to capture the UFC heavyweight title in 2023.

Well, coming to the present time, Gane has beaten Pereira at UFC Freedom 250. “Bones” soon weighed in with a rather subtle reaction to the same.

Speculation surrounding Alex Pereira being deemed the MMA G.O.A.T. in place of Jon Jones

Certain sections of the combat sports realm had lately been abuzz with speculation that Brazil’s Alex Pereira could possibly become the new consensus MMA G.O.A.T., provided he’d win at UFC Freedom 250. Pereira would have become the first fighter to ever win UFC titles in three separate weight classes.

For context, Pereira previously held the Glory Kickboxing middleweight and light heavyweight titles as well as the UFC middleweight and light heavyweight championships.

“Poatan” fought ex-interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. Nevertheless, Gane ended up foiling his three-division champion plans by dominantly defeating him via second-round TKO.

Jon Jones’s reaction to Alex Pereira’s loss against Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250

Jon Jones’s most recent MMA bout witnessed him defend the UFC heavyweight championship against former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic back in November 2024. “Bones” bested the legendary Miocic via TKO and notched a successful title defense.

That was followed by Jones’s call-out to then-UFC light heavyweight kingpin Alex Pereira. Jones had asserted that — despite Tom Aspinall being the interim heavyweight champ at the time — a heavyweight superfight against Pereira intrigued him much more.

Regardless, Jones vs. Pereira didn’t come to fruition. Jones retired in 2025. Nevertheless, he subsequently affirmed that he’s back in the UFC’s drug testing pool — thereby sparking discussions about his potential return to professional MMA competition.

Amid all the ongoing talks regarding his comeback to the octagon, Jones has reacted to Gane’s win over Pereira in their high-profile heavyweight clash. Currently, Gane, who’s once again the interim UFC heavyweight champion, is expected to fight reigning heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in a title unifier later this year.

Taking to X, Jones put forth a post capped off with a goat emoji, denoting that he — as the MMA G.O.A.T. — has made the statement. The statement in his post read as follows:

“Congratulations to the new heavyweight champion Gane, you looked great out there tonight.”
