This week at Shinnecock Hills, five Australians will attempt to end that drought at one of golf\u2019s most demanding venues.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Day, Lucas Herbert, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott and Cameron Smith make up the Aussie contingent at the 2026 US Open, joined in the field by New Zealander Ryan Fox.<\/p>\n<p>Shinnecock Hills has never been short on drama. Corey Pavin delivered one of the great final-hole shots to win in 1995, USGA officials were forced to water-bake out greens mid-round in the 2004 final day, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/2018-us-open-phil-mickelson-briefly-loses-mind-hits-moving-ball\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"43993\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Mickelson created a firestorm when he deliberately hit a moving ball on the 13th green<\/a> during the third round in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/26USO_00C_SHCC_FV2_0519-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-148169\"  \/>The 16th Hole of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in the Southampton, N.Y. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. (USGA\/Fred Vuich)<\/p>\n<p>Four of the five Aussies in the field this week- Day, Herbert, Scott and Smith played that 2018 US Open at Shinnecock, none of them advancing to the final two rounds.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the week for Australian golf fans will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/usopen2026-adam-scott-100-straight-major-starts-masters-shinnecock\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"148104\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Scott, who at 45 joins Jack Nicklaus as the only players in history to contest 100 consecutive major championships.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Herbert, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/lucas-herberts-first-liv-golf-title-sends-him-to-the-us-open-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who claimed his first LIV Golf win in Virginia in May<\/a>, knows better than most what that streak means.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be in form to meet the qualification process for every one of them for 25 years, that to me is the most impressive bit,\u201d Herbert said. \u201cThat shows why he is the phenomenal player that he is and why we talk about him in the way that we do, because he\u2019s just had such a consistently high-level career pretty much since everyone knew his name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/us-open-2026-shinnecock-bodehnamer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open 2026: The man charged with setting up Shinnecock outlines the delicate balance he\u2019s seeking<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Herbert makes his return to Shinnecock on the back of his first LIV Golf win at Virginia in May, Ripper GC teammate Cameron Smith is buoyed by a tie for seventh at the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club.<\/p>\n<p>All four rounds of the US Open will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 503 and Kayo Sports, with coverage beginning at 8:30 pm AEST on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>US Open<br \/>Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, New York<br \/>Recent champion: JJ Spaun<br \/>Past Aussie winners: David Graham (1981), Geoff Ogilvy (2006)<br \/>TV times: Live 8:30 pm-10 am Thursday, Friday;
