{"id":739550,"date":"2026-06-16T06:02:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T06:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/739550\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T06:02:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T06:02:19","slug":"what-happened-to-this-hot-wheels-holden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/739550\/","title":{"rendered":"What happened to this Hot Wheels Holden?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MENTION the \u2018Hot Wheels Commodore\u2019 and fair chance the minds of many V8 Supercar fans will go to the wildcard entry driven by Sam Newman in the non-championship event at the 1999 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>However, that blue #99 car wasn\u2019t the only Hot Wheels Holden that took to the Albert Park circuit at that event for the supporting event known as the \u2018Hot Wheels V8 Supercar Showdown\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>At the time it was quoted that Mattel\u2019s Hot Wheels brand sold about two million cars in Australia per year!<\/p>\n<p>A Hot Wheels-liveried VT Commodore \u2013 complete with rear wing and front spoiler \u2013 with the #1 on the side and Hot Wheels Racing \u2018Leading The Way\u2019 signage, paced the field at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Its pilot?<\/p>\n<p>None other than nine-time Bathurst \u2018Great Race\u2019 winner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-176-Peter-Brock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Brock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-subscription?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/issue-4-sub_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That leads to our question \u2013 what ever happened to this Hot Wheels Holden?<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/News_BrockAGP99MPIX-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-257459\"  \/>Brocky aboard the Hot Wheels Holden on track. Photo: an1images.com \/ John Morris, MPIX.<\/p>\n<p>It appeared at a range of other events around this time but seems to have disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Does anyone know perhaps who built it or modified it for its Hot Wheels pace car duties?<\/p>\n<p>Did it get re-wrapped down the track?
