Abbie Chatfield has revealed she will overlay an “anti-clickbait” watermark onto certain types of content she shares online in a bid to protect her image.<\/p>\n
Chatfield announced the move on Tuesday in a video shared to her social media accounts as she explained the reason behind the change.<\/p>\n
In the clip, Chatfield included a watermark covering her face, which read: “Anti-clickbait media watermark.”<\/p>\n
“Anytime I do a video face to camera and I plan to show any emotion particularly when I have no makeup on or I\u2019m in my plaits or I have my glasses on and wearing a t-shirt I\u2019m going to put a watermark over my face,” she said.<\/p>\n
Chatfield said she wanted to stop screenshots from her videos being used by media outlets.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m going to put a watermark over my face unless I\u2019m looking happy, joyous, dancing and looking put together because I don\u2019t want to stop showing up online in my natural state,” she continued.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t want to have to put makeup on of fear of getting a bad photo where I look aggressive or unkempt. I don\u2019t want to have to do a full beat to be able to speak about my opinions.<\/p>\n
“Not that I care about how I look but people see women who are not wearing makeup and who are not put together and not performing for the male gaze, they see that as a sign of instability or being crazy.”<\/p>\n
Chatfield’s fans supported the move while suggesting other methods she could use.<\/p>\n
“I see you as the Princess Diana of our generation. I fear in ten years time everyone will look back and wonder why everyone including the news gave you such a damn hard time,” one fan commented.<\/p>\n
“Please start using bizarre snap filters,” another suggested while a third said: “What about getting a bunch of cute wigs and rotating them.”<\/p>\n
However, other commentators hit back at Chatfield, branding the move “embarrassing”.<\/p>\n
“Did she really suggest the consensus is that women who don’t wear makeup and don’t ‘perform for the male gaze’ are instable, crazy, aggressive, rebellious, delusional or manic? I love to hear if that is the actual consensus because that sounds mental,” another said.<\/p>\n
