{"id":740552,"date":"2026-06-16T17:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T17:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/740552\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T17:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T17:10:07","slug":"nhl-games-leaving-cbc-in-canada-as-sublicense-rogers-sportsnet-ends-sports-video-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/740552\/","title":{"rendered":"NHL Games Leaving CBC in Canada as Sublicense Rogers Sportsnet Ends \u2013 Sports Video Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NHL will no longer air on CBC after the pulic broadcasters and national rights-holder Rogers Sportsnet were unable to come to agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a successful 12-year partnership,\u201d said the announcement, \u201cSportsnet and CBC today announced the public broadcaster will no longer carry NHL broadcasts after the current season as it moves forward with a new sports programming strategy following the unprecedented success of the Milano\/Cortina Olympic Games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWatching hockey on Saturday night is a time-honoured tradition for Canadians, and Sportsnet is privileged to continue delivering that tradition, the statement continues. \u201cThis has been a terrific partnership, and both parties look forward to continued opportunities to collaborate in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In its place,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/sports\/cbc-nhl-hockey-night-in-canada-ends-9.7236977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CBC will launch a new Saturday night prime time show<\/a>\u00a0on CBC and streaming on CBC Gem, featuring Canadian athletes competing at home and at the biggest events around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The CBC began airing Hockey Night in Canada on television in 1952 and held exclusive Saturday night rights through the 2013-14 season.
