Floyd Mayweather<\/a> faces more legal trouble <\/a>after two felony charges were filed against him over allegations he used a bad cheque to buy a $US200,000 watch in 2024.<\/p>\n

The charges are for theft and intent to defraud. They carry a penalty of up to 20 years in jail for a guilty verdict, but lengthy sentences of that nature are uncommon.<\/p>\n

ESPN reports Mayweather wrote a $US200,000 cheque for a watch he bought at a high-end Las Vegas store in December 2024. <\/p>\n

However, court records in the report state Mayweather \u201chad insufficient money, property, or credit\u201d in his bank account to pay the amount in full. <\/p>\n

The theft charge alleges the former boxing world champion bought the watch \u201cknowing that the cheque would not be paid when presented\u201d.<\/p>\n

The lawyer for the store filing the action, Gold & Beyond, said his client didn\u2019t want to approach authorities but Mayweather left him with no choice because he was \u201cignored\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason for the delay is that my guy trusted Mayweather and was trying to give him every opportunity to make good on that,\u201d Marc Cook said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it got to the point where he wasn\u2019t getting responses and wasn\u2019t getting money for a watch that Mayweather had for well over a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The undefeated fighter, who is set take on Mike Zambidis in a Greece exhibition later this month, has had a myriad of legal and financial issues<\/a> pop up over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n

At least four civil cases filed allege Mayweather owes money<\/a> and he was issued with a $US7.2 million levied against Mayweather for unpaid taxes in 2018 and 2023. <\/p>\n

A Las Vegas-area gated community also filed a separate lien of over $US22,500.<\/p>\n

Mayweather is also the plaintiff in separate suits he brought earlier this year\u00a0against Showtime for $US340 million\u00a0and his\u00a0former business associates for $US175 million. <\/p>\n

He alleged fraud and \u201caiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty\u201d in both civil cases.<\/p>\n
