<\/p>\nA man has opened up about a row he had with his mother-in-law after she made a series of cruel comments about him during a family holiday.<\/p>\n
The husband, who is aged 45, explained he had travelled with his wife and their children, as well as his wife’s mother, father and sister.<\/p>\n
Airing his frustrations in a Reddit post on Saturday, the man said his mother-in-law “made multiple remarks” about his weight, which eventually caused him to “snap” at her.<\/p>\n

“My mother-in-law is the queen bee. Everyone dances to her tune, goes out of their way to accommodate what she wants and generally defers to her,” he began.<\/p>\n
“Throughout the holiday, she made multiple remarks about my weight.<\/p>\n
“I’m not what you would call morbidly obese, but I’m a big guy, big enough to sweat more easily than most, especially in hot weather or with prolonged exertion. Not to the point where my clothes are saturated or anything though.”<\/p>\n
He claimed that his mother-in-law made remarks when he suggested getting a taxi rather than walking two hours to a restaurant, or when he had to go outside in the evenings to cool down.<\/p>\n
“Basically, any time I suggested doing something to manage the fact that I run hot (and that’s even without the extra weight),” he continued.<\/p>\n
“After biting my tongue all holiday, I snapped on the last day. We were talking about the space (or lack thereof) on flights, and when I remarked that I found it difficult as someone my size, she snapped about losing weight.<\/p>\n
“It was so sudden and rude that I was genuinely stunned for a moment. She immediately tried to back down, claiming she wasn’t trying to be rude, while several other people insisted it WAS rude.<\/p>\n
“I clapped back, stating that it had been every day she had something to say and was only backing down now because I was obviously p***** off.”<\/p>\n
To his surprise, his sister-in-law took her mother’s side and accused him of “ruining the holiday”.<\/p>\n
Concluding his post, the husband confirmed he and his mother-in-law apologised to each other for their parts in the disagreement, and was now unsure whether he overreacted by “calling her on her behaviour”.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of people have taken to the comments to share their thoughts on the matter, with many declaring that the man’s wife should have stepped in.<\/p>\n
“Why isn’t your wife shutting down comments about your weight from others?” one person asked, while another stated: “No way would I allow my family to disrespect my husband.”<\/p>\n
A third person said the man could have dealt with the situation more calmly, writing: “The first remark should be met with, ‘Please don’t make remarks about my body I’m trying to teach my kids not to bully people’.”<\/p>\n
