{"id":741929,"date":"2026-06-17T08:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T08:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/741929\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T08:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T08:08:09","slug":"playing-visually-impaired-cricket-for-surrey-feels-like-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/741929\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Playing visually impaired cricket for Surrey feels like home&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A budding visually impaired (VI) cricket player has said being introduced to the sport &#8220;feels like home&#8221;, having already represented her county just weeks after first picking up a bat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Willow Carr, from Worplesdon near Guildford, first began playing VI Cricket in May as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cdxpy7ppdpeo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a new programme run by Pirbright Cricket Club.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 23-year-old said she was proud to have played twice for Surrey just weeks afterwards, and is encouraging others considering playing to go for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Speaking to BBC Radio Surrey at a training session, she said: &#8220;It feels like a little family, and I think that&#8217;s so nice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She added: &#8220;I was so welcomed in and everyone was so nice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;You don&#8217;t need any preparedness to come along and try.
