“I among many people in the industry have being speaking to Tasmania,” Longmire told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 on Wednesday night.

“But that has been quite open, as far as Tassie are concerned, as well. They’ve spoken to everyone in the industry, I was one of them.

“(Gale has) spoken to a number of people. Whether they’re past coaches, current coaches, he’s spoken to plenty of people in the industry.

“I think everyone knows that, so I don’t think it’s a great surprise I was one of them.”

Longmire said there were plans to resume talks with Gale and Devils, but played down the idea that he was the favourite for the vacancy.

And Longmire refused to weigh in on whether he or the club were at the stage of being ready to make a call.

“I think anyone he’ll be talking to, there may be some questions to follow up. But that doesn’t necessarily mean one thing or the other,” he added.

“There’s no point in speculating on what may happen down the track.

“It’s not at that point, as far as I’m concerned or Tassie are concerned.

“It’s a bit too early to be going with headlines like ‘all in’.”

The likes of Ken Hinkley and Nathan Buckley have also been linked to the Tassie role.

Lynch remains tight-lipped on Longmire | 01:08

Devils board remember Alastair Lynch was tight-lipped on the club’s recent link to Longmire.

“No I can’t (confirm that). But it does seem like a very popular topic at the moment. There’s a new favourite that pops up every couple of months,” he said on Fox Footy’s AFL Tonight.

“As you’d expect, I won’t be giving a running commentary on how the process is going. But things are proceeding quite well and we hope to have an announcement by the end of the season on who will coach the Tasmania Devils for the first time.

“There’s a number of outstanding candidates around the country with an enormous amount of experience that would be well suited to taking the team into the 2028 season.

“Any one of them could do a fantastic job for Tassie.”
