Alright. Perhaps this offseason has gone from anticipatory to extremely spicy, to flatly tiresome.\u00a0<\/p>\n
What in the world is taking the Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> so long to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>? Does the Miami Heat<\/a> want him? How about the Boston Celtics<\/a>?\u00a0<\/p>\n Is anything even brewing behind the scenes?<\/p>\n Over a month ago, Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslem tossed out an artificial due date on an Antetokounmpo decision, saying the franchise would sort out the two-time MVP\u2019s future before the NBA<\/a> Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n Well, that\u2019s now just six days away.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Celtics are Suitors for the Bucks Star \u2026 But There\u2019s a Problem GettyMILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN \u2013 NOVEMBER 10: Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks handles the ball during a game against the Boston Celtics at Fiserv Forum on November 10, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n According to several reports, the Celtics made an offer to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, yet others like the Boston Globe\u2019s Gary Washburn are maintaining Boston is unwilling to make an all-out push to acquire Antetokounmpo.\u00a0<\/p>\n So, what\u2019s really the deal here?\u00a0<\/p>\n According to The Athletic\u2019s Bucks reporter Eric Nehm, there is something preventing the Celtics<\/a> from being as aggressive as they\u2019d perhaps like to be in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.<\/p>\n \u201cAs we reported last week here at The Athletic, one of the defining traits of this offseason\u2019s batch of trade discussions surrounding Antetokounmpo is a hesitancy from many teams to get caught up in a bidding war for the two-time NBA MVP, only to see him put on a different team\u2019s jersey,\u201d Nehm answered in a Q&A. \u201cThe fear being that they could potentially offend their own players with trade rumors and then not end up with Antetokounmpo.\u201d<\/p>\n To put it plainly, the Celtics may be fearful of upsetting Jaylen Brown<\/a>, their 29-year-old All-NBA wing who has been the eye of all trade speculation linking Antetokounmpo to Boston.\u00a0<\/p>\n For weeks, all indications have been that if the Celtics were to attempt a blockbuster deal for Antetokounmpo, a trade package would have to revolve around Brown.\u00a0<\/p>\n Perhaps the Celtics are doing their part in playing it cautiously, considering a recent report by Washburn stating Boston is not interested in moving Brown and is seeking ways to retain last season\u2019s MVP candidate in any trade scenario for Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n Where Boston Stands in the Giannis Antetokounmpo Sweepstakes as of Wednesday, According to Reports GettyMILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN \u2013 NOVEMBER 10: Jayson Tatum<\/a> #0 of the Boston Celtics is defended by Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks during a game at Fiserv Forum on November 10, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n One of Wednesday\u2019s notable developments on this situation was a report by NBA insider Chris Haynes, who has heard the Antetokounmpo derby could run until after free agency.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Haynes also reported the Celtics aren\u2019t as deep into negotiations for Antetokounmpo as all the online speculation has made it seem.<\/p>\n \u201cThere isn\u2019t anything official yet on Giannis as far as teams that are really in play and have had some momentum,\u201d Haynes told SiriusXMNBA. \u201cBoston doesn\u2019t seem as promising of a destination as we thought. \u2026 That\u2019s not to say they\u2019ve pulled out. Not to say they won\u2019t try anything when July hits. But I have no clear cut signs that they\u2019re dead set on him as of right now.\u201d<\/p>\n Part of the reason why the Antetokounmpo trade saga has lingered is because of Milwaukee\u2019s changing demands. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Bucks, seeking to extract substantial draft capital from Antetokounmpo suitors, are exploring what offers may be on the table.<\/p>\n \u201cAlong with talking to Miami about this trade,\u201d Siegel reported for ClutchPoints, \u201cMilwaukee has also been active in trade talks with other teams, exploring ways to possibly acquire a third, and maybe even a fourth, first-round pick for Tuesday\u2019s draft.\u201d<\/p>\n Perhaps the Celtics not wanting to unload significant draft capital, coupled with the fear of upsetting Brown, has compounded the franchise\u2019s reluctance to push harder for an Antetokounmpo trade.<\/p>\n That may not sit well with fans, but it may end up serving Boston well in the end, especially if Antetokounmpo is not in a Celtics uniform next season.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tAdel Ahmad<\/a> Adel is a writer with over five years of experience covering the NBA.
