{"id":744417,"date":"2026-06-18T12:21:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T12:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/744417\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T12:21:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T12:21:10","slug":"market-minute-why-so-hawkish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/744417\/","title":{"rendered":"Market Minute: Why so hawkish?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tilt of the Federal Open Market Committee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/realeconomy.rsmus.com\/fed-tilts-hawkish-as-warsh-promises-price-stability\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">policy decision<\/a> on Wednesday toward a greater probability of a near-term rate hike is a function of the unfortunate reality of the recent surge in inflation.<\/p>\n<p>A simple look at PCE, core PCE, CPI, core CPI, PPI and core PPI illustrates that they all reside above the current federal funds policy rate, not to mention the Federal Reserve\u2019s 2% inflation target.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation has been above target for more than five years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/realeconomy.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6_18_2026_MM.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29765 size-mailchimp-images\" src=\"https:\/\/realeconomy.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6_18_2026_MM-560x337.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"337\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We think that this increase is a risk to price stability as investors are forced to reset their inflation expectations higher.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all being driven by the series of economic and supply shocks of recent years, not to mention the strongest boom in capital expenditures in generations.
