<\/p>\nCrows legend Tony Modra has been seriously injured in a truck crash.<\/p>\n
In a statement, SA Police said a 57-year-old man from Waitpinga was taken to hospital on Thursday evening after he crashed his truck into a tree at Back Valley, about 10 kilometres west of Victor Harbor.<\/p>\n
Police were called to the scene about 5:15pm.<\/p>\n
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said his thoughts were with Modra and his family following reports of the crash.<\/p>\n
“Mods is an SA icon who has never forgotten where he came from,” Mr Malinauskas said.<\/p>\n
“Down to earth and just a really good bloke.<\/p>\n
“Tony and his family are in our thoughts tonight, and we all hope he’ll be ok.”<\/p>\n

Modra played a total of 165 AFL games for the Adelaide Crows and Fremantle Dockers.<\/p>\n
He played football in SA’s Riverland region before debuting for the Crows in 1992.<\/p>\n
Modra was leading goalkicker at the Crows for five straight seasons and played State of Origin football, winning the league’s Coleman\u00a0medal in 1997.<\/p>\n
It was in the same year he seriously injured a knee in the preliminary final and missed the club’s historic first AFL premiership.<\/p>\n
When he returned, he could not force his way into the team for the club’s second flag in 1998.<\/p>\n
Modra kicked 440 goals for Adelaide and won the AFL’s mark of the year three times, including once at Fremantle.<\/p>\n
He finished his career at the Dockers, before moving back to country SA.<\/p>\n
