Folks will collect most anything. Some focus on one specific area. Others diversify.<\/p>\n
Global Technologies\u2019 CEO Anthony Jabin fits squarely into the second category. He collects guitars signed by famous musicians, not too out of the ordinary. He also collects exotic foreign cars, same. But his absolute obsession with Marilyn Monroe differentiates him from others.<\/p>\n
Jabin says his penchant for collecting began early by amassing the usual things kids do: coins, baseball cards (Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio are his favorites) and stamps. But when he was 21, actress Monroe caught his eye. <\/p>\n
Jabin\u2019s father, an attorney who went to school with Hugh Hefner\u2019s lawyer, took him to the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California. There, on a table, was an early issue of Playboy magazine. Who was on the cover? Monroe.<\/p>\n

Jabin\u2019s Monroe collection includes her bathing suit, dresses and a hair brush. In fact, Jabin is so keen on Monroe that he bought a crypt near her for his own burial. Cost: $195,000.<\/p>\n
Then there\u2019s Jabin\u2019s vintage guitar collection, numbering more than 200. Many are from the famous musicians who played them: Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Peter Frampton. \u201cWho didn\u2019t want to be a rock star as a teenager,\u201d he laughs.<\/p>\n
He says his most expensive is unsigned: a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard Burst that\u2019s valued at over a half-million dollars. When he can, though, he\u2019ll have the musicians sign while he\u2019s present – and get a photo, too – to prove authenticity.<\/p>\n
Like many older men, another obsession of Jabin\u2019s is exotic cars. In fact, just after our interview, the 62-year-old was off to a dealer to pick up a Ferrari 360 stick-shift convertible he had purchased a few days earlier for $140,000. Other exotics in his collection are a rare 1971 Ferrari Daytona and a DeLorean.<\/p>\n
Jabin hangs onto his collectibles for sentimental reasons. But occasionally, like any good businessman, he\u2019ll sell if the price is right. In fact, he recently sold a Monroe dress dear to his heart for $725,000.<\/p>\n
And Jabin is not immune to giving stuff away for philanthropic reasons. He has some rare skateboards from when he owned the Z-Flex company on loan to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

The big question: If Jabin could say something to Monroe now, what would it be? \u201cHow do you want to be remembered? Everybody has his or her memory of what you meant to them, but how about you?
