Pennel called the report \u201cfake news,\u201d and his lawyer said Pennel didn\u2019t know the woman.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN now reports that Pennel <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/49111387\/espn-investigation-pennel-knew-woman-body-found-dr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">did indeed know the woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Citing \u201cinterviews with people close to the victim and police records reviewed by ESPN,\u201d ESPN reports that Pennel \u201cfrequently spent time\u201d with Carli Franchesca Guzm\u00e1n Roche when Pennel was in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n<p>She was reported missing on September 11, 2021. Her body was discovered in January 2026, when the new owner of the property was doing excavation work.<\/p>\n<p>Pennel and his lawyer did not respond to \u201cseveral messages\u201d from ESPN seeking comment.<\/p>\n<p>Undrafted in 2014, Pennel has played for the Packers, Jets, Chiefs, Falcons, Bears, and Bengals. In 2025, he appeared in eight games with the Bengals and eight with the Chiefs. <\/p>\n<p>In 12 years, he has 154 regular-season appearances and 27 starts.
