They do have powerful sensory organs, including the ability to detect electrical signals from living animals. That helps them find prey, especially at close range.<\/p>\n<p>What can attract sharks is the possibility of food. Bait fish, hooked fish, feeding activity, animal remains and fishing areas can draw sharks into a zone. Murky water makes the situation trickier because both sharks and people have less visual information.<\/p>\n<p>Time of day matters too. Shark attacks are more likely to occur in the morning or near sunset because many sharks are more active during low-light periods. Swimming at dawn or dusk increases the chances of encountering sharks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu\/discover-fish\/sharks\/how-to-avoid-shark-attacks\" class=\"ext-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Museum<\/a> advises avoiding low-light hours, murky water and excessive splashing, since splashing can sound like distressed prey.<\/p>\n<p>Some shark bites are not truly unprovoked attacks. Many bites occur after humans harass sharks, try feeding them, grab them, spear fish near them or otherwise interfere with the animal\u2019s normal behavior.<\/p>\n<p>A shark that bites during a feeding attempt is not acting like a movie monster.
