{"id":745621,"date":"2026-06-19T00:57:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T00:57:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/745621\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T00:57:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T00:57:19","slug":"roland-dane-endorsed-jayden-ojeda-as-shane-van-gisbergen-supercars-successor-at-triple-eight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/745621\/","title":{"rendered":"Roland Dane endorsed Jayden Ojeda as Shane van Gisbergen Supercars successor at Triple Eight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ROLAND Dane has revealed he encouraged Triple Eight to sign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1544-Jayden-Ojeda\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jayden Ojeda<\/a> when it was on the hunt for a Shane van Gisbergen replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Dane and Ojeda are nowadays core elements of PremiAir Racing, but at the time \u2013 three years ago \u2013 \u2018RD\u2019 was chairman of the Triple Eight board.<\/p>\n<p>To recap, the all-conquering Brisbane team had an unexpected vacancy pop up for 2024 after van Gisbergen\u2019s Chicago heroics made an imminent NASCAR switch inevitable for the Kiwi.<\/p>\n<p>There was genuine uncertainty regarding what Triple Eight would do, before it managed to land <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1292-Will-Brown\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Brown<\/a>, who sought an early release from his Erebus Motorsport deal. Brown went on to win the championship in his first season with Triple Eight.<\/p>\n<p>But in a parallel universe, it could have been Ojeda slotting in as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1545-Broc-Feeney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Broc Feeney<\/a>\u2019s new teammate.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/PremiAir-Ojeda-2026-betr-Darwin-Triple-Crown-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-257812\"  \/>Jayden Ojeda. Pic: PremiAir Racing<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m surprised he wasn\u2019t in Supercars already,\u201d said Dane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put him forward when I was on the board of Triple Eight as a replacement for Shane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the end, quite rightly, Will Brown was available and got the drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut to me, he should have been in Supercars already. I was surprised he wasn\u2019t given his track record.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-12-scale-2022-bathurst-1000-97-holden-commodore-zb-van-gisbergen-tander-model-1?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b18h22p-93_3_4ef86d7f-33cc-405e-802b-aa4f653fca89_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully he continues on the trajectory he is and proves me right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ojeda leads Supercars\u2019 five-pronged rookie contingent this season and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/opinion-the-course-of-action-premiair-must-take-now\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has quickly established himself as an asset for PremiAir to build around<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody who is as good as Jayden, for sure, other people should be looking at him but ultimately I hope that he\u2019ll stay with PremiAir.
