Eversolo isn\u2019t one to let a winner sit still. The original DMP-A8<\/a> streaming DAC and pre-amplifier proved a hit, and rather than coast on that, the company is about to roll out a Gen 2 model in two flavours: a standard DMP-A8 Gen 2 and a DMP-A8 Gen 2 Master Edition that builds a top-loading CD playback and ripping system into the same box.<\/p>\n

Design and display<\/p>\n

The chassis has been redrawn wider and lower. The standard version measures 388 x 265 x 88mm, while the Master Edition stands a little taller at 99mm to make room for its disc mechanism. Up front sits a new 8.6\u2033 touchscreen driving a reworked UI, with VU meters, a spectrum analyser and a few artistic display modes that move in time with the music.<\/p>\n

Core architecture<\/p>\n

Inside, Eversolo sticks with a familiar core: the AK4191EQ digital processor feeding an AK4499EX DAC, a split digital and analogue (source) arrangement paired with a fully balanced analogue pre-amplifier stage and R-2R volume control. A 64-bit octa-core processor with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage runs the show, said to scan and index up to 200,000 tracks in roughly two hours.<\/p>\n

Connectivity<\/p>\n

Connectivity runs deep. On the digital side, there are TOSLINK and coaxial inputs (both good up to 24-bit\/192kHz and DoP64) for source kit like CD transports, an HDMI ARC input for TV audio and a USB-B port that handles DSD512 and 32-bit\/768kHz PCM.<\/p>\n

The analogue inputs cover balanced XLR and single-ended RCA, both feeding the pre-amplifier as line-level sources.<\/p>\n

For digital outputs, USB, AES\/EBU and I2S let the unit serve as a transport into an outboard DAC. A new SFP fibre network port offers a more isolated network feed, and a dedicated subwoofer output with a crossover adjustable between 40Hz and 500Hz takes care of bass management.<\/p>\n

The Master Edition<\/p>\n

The Master Edition adds a top-loading, in-house customised CD playback system that can also rip discs, which Eversolo says it handles with high-precision error correction. The company tells me this isn\u2019t a standard computer drive but a custom solution developed specifically for the Chinese company; more details on this are to come. The Master Edition also steps up the clock: an OCXO crystal oscillator with PLL, a femtosecond system clock and an external clock input for anyone running a standalone reference.<\/p>\n

\nStreaming<\/p>\n

On the software side, both units carry the usual Eversolo spread. Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer sit on board (accessible via touchscreen or Eversolo Control app), with Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify also handling Connect duties. Roon Ready certification may or may not be in place at launch, but Eversolo says it will follow eventually.<\/p>\n

Pricing & availability<\/p>\n

Pricing is the missing piece. Eversolo\u2019s press materials name no figure for either DMP-A8 Gen 2 version, in Euros or US dollars, so we can\u2019t yet say what the standard Gen 2 or its CD-equipped sibling will cost. For reference, the original DMP-A8 launched at US$1980. Both Gen 2 versions are scheduled for release in Q3 2026.<\/p>\n
