The Boston Celtics<\/a> would seemingly have to part ways with Jaylen Brown to complete any trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the question is how much more they want to give up.<\/p>\n

Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP and it will take a haul to land him. However, the Celtics would reportedly prefer<\/a> simply swapping Brown for Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n

“Of all the questions that remain unanswered on this front, and which will likely dictate how it all ends, that might top the list,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick wrote on Friday. “The Celtics have gone to great lengths to avoid the elephant in the room here, but Jaylen Brown would need to be part of any deal for Antetokounmpo. And if Boston had its way, it seems, the conversation would start and end there with a one-for-one swap of fellow All-Stars who are still in their respective primes (Antetokounmpo is 31; Brown is 29). Lest anyone forgets, Brown is coming off his best season yet, finishing sixth in MVP voting.”<\/p>\n

The Celtics reportedly believe Brown alone is an asset equal to Antetokounmpo. Brown is younger, coming off his best season and is extension eligible. However, the Milwaukee Bucks may not see it that way.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s unclear if the Bucks would look to build around Brown as a centerpiece, as many rival executives have recently predicted, or perhaps rebuild by sending him elsewhere for young players and picks,” wrote Amick. “But whichever path they might select, it\u2019s widely believed that Brown alone wouldn\u2019t be enough for Milwaukee.”<\/p>\n

The Miami Heat are the other team in contention to land Antetokounmpo. The Heat and Celtics look to be the top candidates to land the two-time MVP, but the Celtics are not as desperate as the Heat. Even if the Celtics can’t win the trade sweepstakes, they still have Jayson Tatum and Brown. Meanwhile, getting Antetokounmpo may be the Heat’s only path back to the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n
