(ABC News: Keane Bourke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We have provided more funding than ever before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It&#8217;s a line often used by government, which usually doesn&#8217;t mean a lot, because the combination of inflation and an ever-growing population means spending will almost always increase, even if what&#8217;s being delivered remains the same.<\/p>\n<p>Bleak future<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">There are many signs a lot more funding will be required in the future, including from a Health Department report released this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The idea of its &#8216;Burden of Disease&#8217; analysis is to track changes in not only life expectancy, but also how much of people&#8217;s lives are lived in good health \u2014 meaning their impact on the health system is reduced.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-08-13\/busselton-widow-proof-of-broken-wa-regional-health-system\/105636280\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inside WA&#8217;s &#8216;broken&#8217; health system<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jenny Cross says her husband died after a six-month fight for answers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The latest report, which looks at data from 2023, found life expectancy was increasing faster than the proportion of people&#8217;s lives considered to be lived in good health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">On average, it said women under 64 and men aged under 60 could expect to have a smaller proportion of their remaining life in good health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It suggests without fundamental changes in the health system, the problems facing patients today will only get worse because of ever-increasing demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">And there are problems at the moment \u2014 even if the government is not keen to admit them.<\/p>\n<p>Ambulance ramping<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\"><a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-08-03\/ambulance-ramping-exposes-deeper-problems-in-wa-health-system\/105604616\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105604616\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The amount of time ambulances spend parked outside hospitals waiting to transfer patients is just one symptom of the problem<\/a> \u2014 highlighting when hospitals are at capacity and unable to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Between June 2024 and June 2025 a patient would spend, on average, 20 minutes ramped outside a hospital \u2014 about in line with the averages in previous years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">This month, the average is closer to 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Two rows of parked ambulances outside a hospital.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/fccdc125bd602212edfa3d3c6c2f2a6b\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Patients are spending an average of almost 30 minutes ramped outside WA hospitals this month. (ABC News: Keane Bourke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The reasons it might change, for example, are because a patient has been discharged and that room needs to be cleaned before another patient can use it.
