{"id":74981,"date":"2025-08-17T12:10:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T12:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/74981\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T12:10:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T12:10:09","slug":"lindsay-davenport-responds-when-asked-if-she-thinks-any-us-men-can-beat-carlos-alcaraz-and-jannik-sinner-at-a-grand-slam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/74981\/","title":{"rendered":"Lindsay Davenport responds when asked if she thinks any US men can beat Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at a Grand Slam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lindsay Davenport has now given her verdict on the chances that the male American field have heading into the last Grand Slam of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Upon the return of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, there is always increased hope around those home favourites, who are supported well throughout their time in New York.<\/p>\n<p>As such, it is almost expected that at least one or two should go deep enough to give those fans something to latch onto.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Fritz<\/a> who soared all the way to the final, defeating his countryman Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2170868436-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jannik Sinner shakes hands with Taylor Fritz\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, he was swiftly beaten in straight sets by <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tennis\/jannik-sinner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jannik Sinner<\/a>, the world\u2019s paramount player at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>It is this hurdle that promises to once again prove near-impossible to overcome, especially with <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> hitting form in Cincinnati too.<\/p>\n<p>This duo were the reason why Davenport made the following prediction.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Davenport makes a prediction about American men<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/7o2404thpRPfwqkPYW2EVn?si=4403b340421d4259\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tennis Channel Live<\/a> podcast, the three-time Grand Slam champion was asked to rate just how far away she thinks the American men are from the ultimate prize.<\/p>\n<p>After all, as Gauff jokingly suggested a few weeks ago, they do need to catch up to the women, with her and Madison Keys having both having won a title, and Amanda Anisimova reaching a Wimbledon final too.<\/p>\n<p>Davenport started by admitting: \u201cFeels like we\u2019re getting closer. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s still a tough ask if you\u2019re talking about New York in a couple of weeks\u2019 time because Sinner\u2019s playing a level on hard-court tennis I\u2019m not sure we\u2019ve ever seen; the consistency and how well he\u2019s playing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlcaraz as well, such a shot-maker.
