An elderly tourist visiting Western Australia’s north suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by his own vehicle and caravan during a robbery, police say.<\/p>\n
The incident happened about 10:45am on Saturday in the Kimberley town of Halls Creek, 2,800 kilometres north of Perth.<\/p>\n
Police say the 76-year-old man had parked his Isuzu D-Max ute, which was towing a white caravan, at a service station on the Great Northern Highway.<\/p>\n
The man was allegedly inspecting the caravan when a person, or people, entered the vehicle and drove away.<\/p>\n
Police say the vehicle owner was struck by the ute during the incident and suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n
The ABC understands the man was underneath the caravan when the vehicle was driven away, and that he is travelling with a woman.<\/p>\n

A Royal Flying Doctor Service spokesperson said the man was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
No arrests have been made and police are calling for information from the public.<\/p>\n
Both the vehicle and caravan have South Australian registration plates.<\/p>\n
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dash cam footage should contact Crime Stoppers.<\/p>\n
Community ‘disgusted’\u00a0<\/p>\n
President of the shire of Halls Creek Malcolm Edwards said he was sorry and disappointed for what happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I would like to pass our condolences to the gentleman who’s now in hospital and any members of his family,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The shire will meet again with police in the coming days to discuss how to tackle the town’s ongoing crime problems.<\/p>\n
But Mr Edwards said community members were “disgusted” and frustrated.<\/p>\n
