Entries are now open for the 2026 Holdmark Innovation Award, an annual accolade presented by Powerhouse in partnership with Sydney Design Week principal partner Holdmark Property Group, which recognises innovation and excellence in the built environment.<\/p>\n
The award, which is accompanied by a $15,000 prize, will be presented to one exemplary Australian-designed project completed in 2025 that demonstrates forward-thinking solutions to challenges faced by Australia\u2019s urban environments. <\/p>\n
Buildings, built structures or a key component in a structure\u2019s design or construction can be entered. Innovation may be demonstrated through the application of emerging technologies, regenerative practices, pioneering research or sustainable construction methods.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s jury comprises Abbie Galvin, government architect NSW; Jack Gillmer-Lilley, associate, SJB; Keinton Butler, senior exhibition curator, Powerhouse; Kevin Nassif, chief operating officer, Holdmark; and Professor Philip Oldfield, head of school, Built Environment, UNSW Sydney.<\/p>\n
Last year, the award was won by Hassell<\/a> for their design of Bradfield\u2019s First Building, which houses the first stage of an Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF). Conceived as a modular kit of parts that can be disassembled, expanded or relocated, the project was recognised for the way in which it \u201cdemonstrates a circular, low-carbon path that creates skilled jobs and new enterprise in Western Sydney,\u201d Nassif said. <\/p>\n Previously awarded projects include the Wilam Ngarrang Retrofit by Kennedy Nolan with Finding Infinity (2024), and Phive in Parramatta Square<\/a> by Design Inc. with Lacoste and Stevenson, and Manuelle Gautrand Architecture (2023).<\/p>\n
