Manchester United’s eyes have turned to the transfer market after a third-place finish in the Premier League<\/a>. Michael Carrick’s squad will be bolstered over the course of the summer as United prepare for a season fighting on all fronts.<\/p>\n

Having replaced Ruben Amorim<\/a> in January, Carrick steered United <\/a>back into the Champions League<\/a>, meaning an increased demand on the current squad. That, in turn, will necessitate new arrivals.<\/p>\n

Casemiro’s departure<\/a> leaves a gaping hole in the midfield that Ederson is set to partially fill<\/a>, but another addition in that area appears likely. Newcastle<\/a> star Sandro Tonali<\/a> is one name that has reportedly caught the club’s gaze.<\/p>\n

A bid is now thought to have been rejected for the Italian<\/a>, but it was not United who submitted it. Mirror Football brings you the latest transfer updates from Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Sandro Tonali bid<\/p>\n

Newcastle ace Tonali appears set for an eventful summer and despite United reportedly being in the race to sign him<\/a>, it is Tottenham<\/a> who have tabled an \u00a380million offer.<\/p>\n

This bid has been swiftly rejected by Newcastle, according to the Newcastle Chronicle<\/a>, as they value their star at \u00a3100m. The Magpies are, however, supposedly open to selling Tonali.<\/p>\n

Manchester City<\/a> and Arsenal<\/a> are thought to be interested, along with United, but it is Spurs who have seized the initiative with an opening offer.<\/p>\n

Midfield alternative<\/p>\n

Aside from Tonali, West Ham<\/a> star Mateus Fernandes is also a name being linked with a move to United. The Portuguese midfielder was a bright spark in a gloomy season for the Hammers as they were relegated from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest United have made an approach for 21-year-old Fernandes but do not wish to pay West Ham’s \u00a380m asking price. Other clubs are also thought to be courting Fernandes.<\/p>\n

United legend Gary Neville<\/a> thinks that his former side should look at an alternative if the desired sum is not lowered and he highlights Germany<\/a> star Felix Nmecha.<\/p>\n

Nmecha is a former Manchester City player and has dazzled for Germany at the World Cup<\/a>. The Dortmund midfielder reportedly has a \u00a369m release clause in his contract that becomes active next year.<\/p>\n

Speaking on ITV<\/a>, Neville said: “The more he [Nmecha] plays like he did the other night the more expensive he’ll get. But at the moment, we hear Manchester United<\/a> are being quoted \u00a3100m for the West Ham boy Fernandes.<\/p>\n

“So they’re going to have to be looking around this tournament and parts of Europe. He looked outstanding the other night, it looked like he had absolutely everything.”<\/p>\n
