The family of Paul Fenech has announced his passing, revealing that he died peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital earlier today.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we announce that my beloved husband and our father Paul Fenech passed peacefully this morning at Mater Dei Hospital,\u201d a statement shared on his Facebook page by his wife Winnie and children Ian and Christine read.<\/p>\n

The family said funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Fenech was widely known across Malta both for his decades-long contribution to basketball and for his commitment to public service. He served as Swieqi\u2019s longest-serving Local Councillor, remaining active into the locality\u2019s sixth legislature.<\/p>\n

The Maltese basketball community has also paid tribute to a man who helped shape generations of players both on and off the court.<\/p>\n

In a heartfelt tribute shared by those connected to the Lyceum Star\/Wrangler Basketball Club, Fenech was remembered not only for his contribution to the sport but for the lasting impact he had on the lives of countless young athletes.<\/p>\n

Over several decades, he dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring young players, many of whom have since gone on to become parents, professionals and community leaders.<\/p>\n

While he taught basketball fundamentals and helped develop players\u2019 skills, those who knew him say his greatest contribution was the values he passed on.<\/p>\n

He is being remembered for instilling discipline, teamwork, resilience, humility and integrity in the generations that came through his teams.<\/p>\n

For many former players, Fenech was a constant source of encouragement during some of the most important years of their lives, helping shape not just athletes but individuals.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did not just build winning teams; he built good citizens,\u201d the tribute read.<\/p>\n

Beyond the basketball court, Fenech also dedicated years of service to Swieqi through local government, earning the respect of many residents for his long-standing commitment to the community.<\/p>\n

His influence continues to live on through the many people whose lives he touched, both in sport and public service.<\/p>\n

Condolences\u00a0 his family, friends, former players and colleagues as tributes continue to pour in.<\/p>\n
