\n\tSony 3000 Pictures and Spyglass Media have released the official trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro<\/a>\u2019s Klara and the Sun<\/a>, starring Jenna Ortega<\/a>, Amy Adams<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on the bestselling novel from Nobel Prize-winner Ishiguro and written and directed by Oscar winner Taika Waititi<\/a> (Jojo Rabbit),\u00a0Klara and the Sun introduces\u00a0audiences to Klara (Jenna Ortega), an Artificial Friend (AF) who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. Viewers also get a glimpse of Natasha Lyonne\u2019s character, a shopkeeper of sorts<\/a>, encouraging Klara and her peers, who are an older group of AF models, that they can still find homes despite the rapid advances in technology making them outdated.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I do get chose, how will I know if my person and I are a good match?\u201d Klara asks Lyonne\u2019s Store Manager, who tells her \u201cJust remember everything you learned and hopefully they\u2019ll come to love you like a member of the family or family dog.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJosie (Mia Tharia), picks Klara even though she is an older model and outdated, as Josie\u2019s mother (Adams) tells her, not wanting to spend money on the robot. But Josie thinks Klara\u2019s special.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnd she\u2019s odd special,\u201d Store Manager Lyonne says in front of a ruffled Klara, hair tousled. \u201c20% off!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Klara meets Josie each immediately senses a kindred spirit in the other. Josie has a fraught relationship with her mother (Adams)\u00a0and they\u2019ve suffered great loss, but Klara\u2019s innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty begin to heal the family and bring light to Josie\u2019s complicated world. Klara address the \u201cGlorious Sun\u201d and uses it to recharge. Josie\u2019s mother threatens Klara saying she\u2019s still \u201cunder warranty\u201d and that they can always send her back to the store. When something happens to Josie, her mother and nurse shut the door on Klara.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAfs are like a blank canvas,\u201d Ortega\u2019s eager, wide-eyed Klara says. \u201cWe come out of the lab with the intelligence of a toddler, and then we learn everything from our humans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs she slides down the staircase on her stomach, Josie\u2019s nanny or nurse calls Klara \u201can imbecile.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWaititi wrote the screenplay with Dahvi\u00a0Waller, based on Ishiguro\u2019s novel, which published in March 2021. The film is produced by David Heyman, Garrett Basch and Waititi. Executive producers include Gary Barber, Alex G. Scott, Jeffrey Clifford, Rosie Alison and author Kazuo Ishiguro.<\/p>\n

\n\tAran Murphy, son of Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, stars alongside Ortega, Adams, Tharia and Lyonne. Steve Buschemi also appears, and he can be seen in a glimpse in the trailer.<\/p>\n

\n\tRated PG-13 for thematic elements, some violence and strong language, Klara and the Sun hits theaters October 23.<\/p>\n
