\n\tLionsgate<\/a>\u2018s forthcoming new chapter for The Blair Witch<\/a> Project is blazing a trail toward its release.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe currently untitled movie is set for theatrical release from Lionsgate on Sept. 24, 2027, the studio announced Tuesday. The news was shared to social media with an image that conjured up the franchise\u2019s world. Plot details and cast information have not yet been revealed.<\/p>\n

\n\tDylan Clark<\/a> is set to helm a new take on the horror property from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin that the director is rewriting. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter previously reported<\/a> that Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, who starred in the original 1999 found-footage hit, will serve as executive producers alongside the first movie\u2019s directing team of Eduardo S\u00e1nchez, Daniel Myrick and Gregg Hale.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2024, Lionsgate and Blumhouse<\/a> announced at CinemaCon that a new feature version<\/a> of The Blair Witch Project was in the works through the companies\u2019 multi-film deal that sees Blumhouse reimagine Lionsgate\u2019s horror classics. While speaking at CinemaCon, Lionsgate film boss Adam Fogelson teased \u201ca new vision for\u00a0Blair Witch\u00a0that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Blair Witch Project\u00a0was made for a paltry $35,000 (before marketing costs) and became an instant sensation when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1999. Artisan Entertainment bought the indie feature and released it theatrically that June, with the story centering on three film students who disappear in the woods after setting out to shoot a documentary about the Blair Witch. Collecting $248 million at the global box office ($492 million today), it was a summer phenomenon and one of the year\u2019s 10 highest-grossing titles, not to mention one of the most profitable movies ever made.<\/p>\n

\n\tBlumhouse Atomic Monster<\/a>\u2018s Jason Blum<\/a> and James Wan<\/a> will serve as the reboot\u2019s producers alongside Roy Lee<\/a>. Also producing are Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide\/Conquer. Executive producing are Michael Clear and Judson Scott for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Scott O\u2019Brien and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing the film for Lionsgate, while Phil Strina negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.
