It has ruined my father\u2019s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserve me at 100%. I\u2019m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement came after Poirier was booked this past Sunday (June 21, 2026) on a misdemeanor public drunkenness charge following an incident at an airport in Georgia. \u201cThe Diamond\u201d was released from custody a few hours later, and his mugshot was eventually released<\/a>.<\/p>\n Then, earlier today, body-camera footage showed a clearly intoxicated and agitated Poirier threatening to fight police after he was allegedly removed from a plane.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ll fight you right now,\u201d Poirier said in the footage. \u201cI\u2019ll go with you right now. Let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n As the situation escalated, the officer pulled out his taser and repeatedly told Poirier to stay back. Poirier continued moving toward him and asked, \u201cAre you going to tase me?<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n Thankfully, the situation did not get worse. Another officer eventually arrived, and Poirier surrendered without anyone getting hurt.<\/p>\n Shortly after the initial news broke, Poirier posted a brief message on Instagram, writing, \u201cLove you all. I\u2019m working on myself.\u201d<\/p>\n His latest statement went much further.<\/p>\n It is a brutally honest message from one of the most beloved fighters of his generation.<\/p>\n Poirier officially walked away from mixed martial arts last year after a legendary career filled with violence, heartbreak, massive wins, and unforgettable moments. But as so many retired fighters have talked about over the years, leaving the fight game behind can be its own battle.<\/p>\n For Poirier, it sounds like that battle has been much harder than expected.<\/p>\n
