Comedian Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes revealed his wife Holly’s opposition to his recent political rants after he made his feelings known about the Australian government.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the Aussie launched into a scathing critique of Labor’s capital gains tax changes during an appearance on Nine’s Today show, accusing Albanese’s government of misleading voters over the reforms<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He has also revealed he “regrets” voting for Anthony Albanese and his Labor government<\/a> in the last election and demanded an early return to the polls.<\/p>\n

“[Holly] doesn’t like it, she says that I shouldn’t be political,” Hughesy told The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick radio show on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old and his wife have been married since 2006 and share three children Rafferty, 16, Sadie, 14, and Tess, 12.<\/p>\n

Hughes also admitted he fears backlash from the Aussie public over his outspoken views, stating that he’s worried he’s “going to get bashed” while walking down the street.<\/p>\n

“I’m walking down the street, and people are coming out of shops; they’re stopping their ute in the middle of the road and running at me,” he continued.<\/p>\n

“[I’m thinking] I’m gonna get bashed, and they just want to hug me.”<\/p>\n

Despite his concerns and pushback from his wife, Hughes vowed to continue speaking out if it meant he could make a difference.<\/p>\n

“I just want our standard of living [to rise], as a country is going down a lot, and I believe it’s because the government takes too much money off hard-working people and misuses that money,” he went on.<\/p>\n

“They don’t respect the money, because they didn’t earn the money.<\/p>\n

“Leave as much money in the hands of the people who earn it, so they respect it, and then everyone’s standard of living will rise.<\/p>\n

“But when a government just takes all this money and just burns it, we all get poorer because inflation goes through the roof.”<\/p>\n

Last month, Hughesy said he regretted voting for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers<\/a> due to the capital gains tax changes and demanded an early election.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Albanese said changes to CGT and negative gearing were \u201coff the table\u201d. But, just 12 months on, Chalmers restricted negative gearing and imposed a minimum 30 per cent tax rate on capital gains from 2027.<\/p>\n

The government has argued the changes will improve housing affordability and rebalance the tax system.<\/p>\n

In a blistering Instagram video, Hughes bemoaned how the U-turn will now “affect every Australian”.<\/p>\n

“I voted for Albo and Chalmers, they didn\u2019t have a mandate for changing capital gains tax,” he said. “It\u2019s now the highest in the world. No one is going to want to invest in Australia…<\/p>\n
