The Barbarians<\/a> rarely struggle to assemble a roster filled with international talent, but this week’s squad announcement added another intriguing storyline.<\/p>\n

Just days after featuring for South Africa against the Barbarians in Gqeberha, two-time Rugby World Cup-winning scrum-half Faf de Klerk has switched sides and joined the famous invitational team for its match against Wales at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham.\u00a0<\/p>\n

De Klerk came off the bench in South Africa’s 80-31 victory over the Barbarians before missing out on Rassie Erasmus’ Nations Championship squad. The Barbarians quickly moved to add the veteran playmaker to their lineup.<\/p>\n

The move gives the Barbarians one of rugby’s most recognizable players and adds further experience to a squad already packed with international pedigree. De Klerk will be joined by fellow Springbok Vincent Koch and Australian lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, both of whom also were unavailable for their respective national squads this summer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The squad also carries significant emotional weight thanks to the inclusion of Welsh legend George North. The former Wales star will play the final match of his professional career against the country he represented 121 times, bringing an end to a remarkable career that included 47 international tries, two Six Nations Grand Slams and two British & Irish Lions tours.<\/p>\n

Racing 92 trio Jordan Joseph, Romain Taofif\u00e9nua and former England international Nathan Hughes are among the notable selections after Racing’s semifinal defeat to Toulouse. Stade Francais also is represented through Yoan Tanga and Paul Alo-Emile following the club’s loss to Montpellier in the semifinals.<\/p>\n

Combined with the additions of De Klerk, Koch, North and several international veterans, the Barbarians once again have assembled the type of squad capable of producing the attacking rugby and entertainment that have defined the club for generations.<\/p>\n
