The newly-revamped Tuskers Women\u2019s Premier League (TPL) is set to make a significant impact on the local cricket scene, with organisers anticipating exciting competition, strong spectator support and a platform for emerging female talent.<\/p>\n

Featuring a host of promising junior and senior players from across the region, the tournament is expected to attract hundreds of passionate cricket supporters, including families and friends eager to cheer on the participants.<\/p>\n

The competition is also viewed as an important development pathway, providing players with an opportunity to impress selectors and potentially progress to the Tuskers senior team and provincial ranks.<\/p>\n

KZN Inland Cricket CEO Jason Sathiaseelan confirmed to The Witness on Tuesday that preparations for the tournament are well advanced, with registration now complete and attention turning to the player draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreparations are going well. We have completed the registration process and are now planning for the draft, which will take place on July 1, 2026,\u201d said Sathiaseelan.<\/p>\n

He expressed confidence in the organising team\u2019s ability to deliver a successful event, citing the organisation\u2019s extensive experience in hosting major cricket tournaments.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an experienced team of staff that has hosted many tournaments in the past and the logistics are on track,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The overwhelming response from players highlights the rapid growth of women\u2019s cricket in the region.
According to Sathiaseelan, demand was so high that organisers were forced to close entries.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s game is growing massively and this has resulted in an overwhelming response to the TPL.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tournament offers an opportunity for females to play with and against some of the best players in the region. We want to make it a memorable tournament for them and it incorporates Women\u2019s Month, which is a special time of the year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s competition will feature four teams, with players selected through a draft system. \u201cWe will have four teams in the tournament and players will be drafted into these four teams,\u201d Sathiaseelan explained.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the tournament will be staged during Women\u2019s Month as part of a broader effort to celebrate and recognise the contribution of female cricketers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have hosted this in the past, but for the first time we have moved it into Women\u2019s Month as we strive to celebrate Women\u2019s Month with our cricketers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Organisers are also hoping to secure sponsors and partners to help enhance the event and reward outstanding performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo sponsors yet, but we are looking for partners to come on board and make this special for the women. We want to have many prizes, including Player of the Match, Most Fours, Most Sixes and Most Dot Balls Bowled in each match. The winners and runners-up will also receive prizes,\u201d said Sathiaseelan.<\/p>\n

Among the teams expected to feature in the tournament are Mamba Forces, Python Power Hitters, Cobra Kings and Viper Yorkers.<\/p>\n
