noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian<\/a> activewear brand Stax has been placed into receivership just four years after their founders were named on the AFR Rich List.<\/p>\n<p>Consulting firm FTI announced the brand, which was founded by Don Robertson and Matilda Murray and was at one time touted as a $52 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/business-news\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">business<\/a>, had receivers and managers appointed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"STAX activewear brand founders Don Robertson and _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">The brand was founded by Rich-Listers Don Robertson and Matilda Murray.\u00a0James Brickwood<\/p>\n<p>The Australian activewear company operates online and also has two boutique stores in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/sydney-fp5\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sydney<\/a> CBD and Liverpool. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStax is a well-known Australian brand with strong customer support,\u201d receiver and manager Joseph Hansell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStax has done something genuinely impressive, proving that premium activewear does not have to choose between performance and style.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe business is trading as usual while the receivers undertake an urgent assessment of the company\u2019s operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the move into receivership, the brand\u2019s products are on sale for 50 per cent off sale on its online store. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, its physical store in Sydney\u2019s CBD appeared to have closed early on Wednesday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p>Robertson and Matilda Murray\u2019s rags-to-riches story began in early 2020, telling the Australian Financial Review they spent their life savings to shoot a campaign for a new collection called Premium Seamless V2. <\/p>\n<p>Years later, the pair turned the activewear brand into a $52 million business, cementing a spot on the AFR\u2019s 2022 Young Rich List in the process.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Stax store in the CBD, which appeared _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">The Stax store in the Sydney CBD appeared to have closed early after the company went into receivership.\u00a0Nicole Douglas<\/p>\n<p>Robertson started the brand in 2015 out of his mother\u2019s house before it grew to a multimillion-dollar clothing line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The couple relocated to Sydney in 2019, building a team of more than 50 employees and 12 physical stores, 10 of which were shut by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the Two Broke Chicks podcast, Murray said opening 12 stores was not a good move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re an online brand, it got a point where we had to take a step back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gave it a go, the stores weren\u2019t a great decision.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The couple told the AFR they prided themselves on offering sizes from XXS to XXXXL. <\/p>\n<p>In September 2022, the brand held a pop-up event in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/perth-wa-e7x\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Perth<\/a> featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/tiktok-1nmx\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TikTok<\/a> creator Anna Paul that attracted such a large crowd that police were called.<\/p>\n<p>Thier activewear was also worn by the likes of pop megastars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/person\/jennifer-lopez-3jf\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jennifer Lopez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/entertainment\/celebrity\/lizzo-weight-loss-skinny-trend-ozempic-culture-backlash-20251124-p5pq86.html\" class=\"sc-jNzrEP eIMCEl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lizzo<\/a>, as well as actress Megan Fox. <\/p>\n<p>Hansell and Asjadi Hone of FTI Consulting were appointed as receivers and
