It appeared that the path to the NFL for quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been blocked until 2027. The NFL denied his application for the supplemental draft. He is eligible for the 2027 NFL draft but cannot sign with a team until then.<\/p>\n
The league felt Sorsby was running from the consequences of his betting on sports and college sports while in college. He was banned from the NCAA because of it.<\/p>\n
However, following the league’s decision, Sorsby’s attorney will fight in the court system.<\/p>\n
Jeffrey Kessler, Sorsby’s attorney, released a statement<\/a> and promised legal action. He told ESPN<\/a> the decision “is a violation of the CBA and the law. We will pursue this immediately with the NFLPA.”<\/p>\n In late April, we inquired with the NFL about the process for gaining entry into the Supplemental Draft.\u00a0 The response from the League was that all that was required was a short application, which needed to be submitted prior to June 22. \u00a0At no point did the NFL indicate that it would need or want to review anything other than the application itself or that submitting the application at or close to the deadline would have any impact on the NFL\u2019s consideration. \u00a0<\/p>\n Last week, we requested the NFL\u2019s supplemental draft application.\u00a0 The application asked for basic biographical information, responses to four yes-or-no questions and included a small space for Mr. Sorsby to state \u201cwhy are you applying for the 2026 Supplemental Draft?\u201d\u00a0 It did not provide an opportunity or ask that Mr. Sorsby submit any additional documentation or information.\u00a0 Mr. Sorsby fully completed the application and submitted it to the NFL within hours of receiving it.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr. Sorsby\u2019s agent followed up with the NFL to ask if any additional information was needed or if the NFL had any questions. The NFL declined that invitation. \u00a0<\/p>\n The NFL gave its letter purporting to deny Mr. Sorsby entry to the Supplemental Draft to the media before sending it to Mr. Sorsby.\u00a0 He learned that the NFL was not planning to hold a Supplemental Draft when the media reported it.<\/p>\n Need a news break? Still many moving parts as Brendan Sorsby and his representatives evaluate options.”<\/p>\n The Arizona Cardinals have been matched with Sorsby as a team that would be a good fit for him.
