Former Carlton<\/a> coach Michael Voss<\/a> expects interim Josh Fraser to be interviewed for the full-time position, although recent history may see the Blues pivot elsewhere, he says.<\/p>\n

While Fraser ruled himself out of becoming Carlton\u2019s next full-time coach when taking over from Voss<\/a>, the Blues\u2019 record since his instalment has been impressive.<\/p>\n

Carlton could have a chance of a wildcard berth following five consecutive wins under Fraser, after they started the season 1-8.<\/p>\n

However, those in charge of picking the next coach could be spooked by the way things went last time they chose a successful interim to lead the club.<\/p>\n

David Teague<\/a> won the job full-time after a strong finish to the season in 2019 following Brendon Bolton\u2019s sacking<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, Teague\u2019s tenure fizzled and he lasted just two seasons<\/a> before being axed at the end of 2021, creating the opportunity for Voss.<\/p>\n

Speaking for the first time since his interview with AFL<\/a>.com.au on the day he was sacked, Voss said the club\u2019s history with interim coaches may influence who they select.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only reason you don\u2019t entertain it is maybe there is a fear of recurrence of it not working in the past. Therefore, we don\u2019t go for it again,\u201d Voss told 3AW.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s the interim coach philosophy and then the circumstances that are presenting themselves now, and I would have thought looking from afar, I would be surprised if he wasn\u2019t put through the process at the very least.\u201d<\/p>\n

Voss will return to commentary duties with Fox Footy. He has ruled out a return to coaching.<\/p>\n

He said taking in the action from the outside is \u201cdifficult to watch\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of it\u2019s difficult to watch because you\u2019re not there,\u201d Voss said of Carlton\u2019s surge in form since he quit.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve invested five years of your time and effort, sweat, blood, tears into that group.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn another level, it\u2019s hugely rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cMaking the decision when we did, the interest was about me and only about me. You\u2019re sitting back going, \u2018That\u2019s disappointing\u2019, but it was about the club, creating some freedom, maybe relieving the pressure valve a little bit.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving time on season so they have enough runway to get something out of the year, and they have done that very well, and for the club to make decisions they need to for the future\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cDid I think they would win five in a row? No, probably not.\u201d<\/p>\n

While there\u2019s a level of uncertainty from club officials, Fraser has the backing of the players.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will make a great senior coach one day,\u201d Jagga Smith said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been amazing for us players.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has the sort of values and qualities that would make a good senior coach.<\/p>\n
