Eddie Hearn has offered his verdict on a clash between Gervonta Davis<\/a> and Devin Haney<\/a>, which has suddenly emerged as an unexpected possibility for later this year.<\/p>\n

WBO welterweight champion Haney took to social media earlier this week, claiming that Davis\u2019 team has reached out<\/a> in a somewhat bizarre turn of events.<\/p>\n

This follows the news of \u2018Tank\u2019 withdrawing from negotiations with Floyd Schofield, thus forgoing an opportunity to reclaim his WBA lightweight title.<\/p>\n

An encounter with Haney would therefore come as a considerable curveball, given that Davis was seemingly plotting a return to 135lbs.<\/p>\n

It was at this weight that his last outing took place, resulting in a controversial draw with Lamont Roach<\/a> in March 2025.<\/p>\n

\u2018Tank\u2019 was subsequently involved in negotiations for an immediate rematch, only to then land a lucrative opportunity to face Jake Paul in November.<\/p>\n

Due to accusations of domestic violence, however, the American was later removed from the scheduled exhibition match and stripped of his WBA title.<\/p>\n

But now, it would appear that he is set to return to action, potentially against Haney, who comes off a unanimous decision victory over Brian Norman Jr in November.<\/p>\n

In a media huddle with Fight Hub TV<\/a>, Matchroom chairman Hearn \u2013 who used to promote Haney \u2013 gave an honest assessment of how the all-American showdown might unfold.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just don\u2019t know how Tank\u2019s gonna [perform when he returns]. When did he last fight?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been through a lot, but Tank is an unbelievable talent; he\u2019s a generational talent. If it\u2019s prime v prime, I don\u2019t like backing against Devin Haney \u2026. It\u2019s a good fight.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I\u2019d favour] Devin Haney, for his professionalism and his discipline, but Tank is a phenomenal fighter. If it\u2019s Tank at his very best, maybe Tank [wins].\u201d<\/p>\n
