At just 23, Xander Zayas heads into his ninth fight in New York riding a wave of momentum.<\/p>\n
The Puerto Rican star has enjoyed plenty of success in the Big Apple, most notably capturing his first world title there when he defeated Jorge Garcia Perez for the WBO junior middleweight crown at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in July 2025. <\/p>\n
That set up the opportunity to unify the weight in January thanks to a split decision victory over Abass Baraou in a thrilling bout in San Juan.<\/p>\n
For Philliphelia\u2019s Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis it is all about making further history as he fights in New York for the first time.<\/p>\n
A destructive beating of Eimantas Stanionis in April 2025 saw him unify the welterweight division as he added the WBA strap to his IBF title.<\/p>\n
Boots, who will turn 29 the day before his fight with Zayas, is now looking to become a two-weight unified champion and has already sent a powerful message to the middleweight division.<\/p>\n
In his first fight at the weight in October 2025, Ennis put down Uismas Lima twice in the first round to secure an early TKO victory.<\/p>\n
WHAT\u2019S BEEN SAID?<\/p>\n
Ennis has made it clear he believes he can end the fight early, warning that Zayas may be in over his head against a fighter of his calibre.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can go in there in the first round and get him out of there and we\u2019re not going to be able to see nothing from him,\u201d Ennis said.<\/p>\n
The Philadelphia star has also questioned whether the young champ knows what he\u2019s getting himself into.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Xander bit off way more than he can chew. Come fight night, he\u2019ll see,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to show everyone that I\u2019m the best in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can watch my fights, but when you get in the ring, it\u2019s a whole different story.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zayas, meanwhile, insists he is unfazed by Ennis\u2019 reputation.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe breathes the same oxygen I breathe. Bleeds the same way I bleed. There\u2019s no difference between him and me,\u201d Zayas told BoxingScene.<\/p>\n
