Manchester United have identified two Premier League midfielders as \u2018attainable targets\u2019 to move for whether they beat Tottenham to the signing of West Ham\u2019s Mateus Fernandes or not.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils have already agreed a \u00a335m deal with Atalanta for Ederson, but the INEOS chiefs are targeting further midfield additions following the departure of Casemiro and with Manuel Ugarte also thought to be on the exit ramp.<\/p>\n

Having been priced out of a deal for top target Elliot Anderson after Manchester City made a \u00a3120m offer for the Nottingham Forest midfielder, they\u2019ve since turned their attention to Fernandes.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid have been sniffing around the 21-year-old, while reports have claimed Tottenham have also held talks over a possible move, as Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Spurs want to sign Fernandes and\u00a0Newcastle\u2019s Sandro Tonali this summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Indeed, our friends at TEAMtalk revealed on Wednesday<\/a> that Tottenham have made \u2018significant progress\u2019 in their attempts to sign Fernandes ahead of United.<\/p>\n

TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey added: \u2018Sources have confirmed that discussions with both Fernandes\u2018 camp and West Ham have accelerated over the past few days, leaving Spurs increasingly confident that they can win the race for one of the Premier League\u2019s most sought-after midfielders.<\/p>\n

\u2018As a result, we can reveal that Tottenham are now readying an offer worth around \u00a375million (\u20ac87m, $99m), a figure that would move them very close to West Ham\u2019s initial \u00a380million valuation of the 21-year-old.\u2019<\/p>\n

As per The Sun, \u2018sources have doubted the seriousness of Spurs\u2019 purported interest\u2019 and \u2018Real Madrid expect Fernandes to join Man Utd\u2019.<\/p>\n

And the report then claims that United could look to sign either Bournemouth\u2019s Alex Scott or Brighton\u2019s Carlos Baleba as a \u2018third midfielder\u2019 this summer.<\/p>\n

Scott is thought to be valued at \u00a370m by Bournemouth, while Brighton told United they wanted \u00a3100m for Baleba when the Red Devils made an approach for his services last summer, but it\u2019s claimed they\u2019re \u2018viewed as attainable options\u2019 by the INEOS chiefs.<\/p>\n

A move for either \u2018depends on whether United can shift Manuel Ugarte\u2019, whom the club are \u2018prepared to accept a small loss on\u2019.<\/p>\n

Man Utd given short shrift<\/p>\n

TEAMtalk have subsequently revealed<\/a> that \u2018Scott remains firmly on United\u2019s radar and that fresh enquiries have been made this week as the club continue to assess potential midfield additions\u2019, possibly as an alternative to Fernandes, who they claim is now \u2018very open to joining Spurs\u2019 over United.<\/p>\n

But new Cherries manager Marco Rose is adamant that he wants to keep Scott, while the club have told interested parties that the 22-year-old \u2018is not available for transfer\u2019.<\/p>\n

The report adds:<\/p>\n

\u2018The German coach is understood to view the 22-year-old as a cornerstone of his new-look Bournemouth side and believes he can become one of the team\u2019s most influential players.<\/p>\n
