Hawk Nick Watson was denied his own goal<\/a> after a siren for straying off the line of the mark, the call to deny Morris was correct.<\/p>\n\u201cUnder the AFL\u2019s most recent interpretation, which it must be said is only four weeks old, Logan Morris should not have been awarded that goal,\u201d he said on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did not kick over the man on the mark \u2013 and in fact, you could argue he was one or two metres short.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a Greg Swann directive after the Nick Watson no-goal. The man on the mark has to be able to have the potential to jump up and maybe touch the ball.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe problem, as (former AFL umpire) Ray Chamberlain has told us, is that the umpires have always gone on the situation that as long as you don\u2019t improve your angle, well that\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo the AFL last week through again a directive, a memo to the AFL clubs said the kicking over the man on the mark trumps the improving of the angle. They said you can approach your shot from any direction, but you must not move off the line in an attempt to kick around the player on the mark.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so, the strictest sense of the law from four weeks ago is that\u2019s correct (the no goal).\u201d<\/p>\n
Montagna warned that those AFL stipulations were \u201cruining the shot\u201d after the siren.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven if a player does stay in line, a lot of them change their natural running arc to make sure they don\u2019t go over,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
