SUNRISE, Fla.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager\u00a0Bill Zito\u00a0announced today that the club has\u00a0acquired forward\u00a0Garnet Hathaway\u00a0and\u00a0the Philadelphia Flyers\u00a0sixth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft\u00a0from\u00a0Philadelphia\u00a0in exchange for\u00a0Florida\u2019s\u00a0fifth-round pick in 2026 and fourth-round pick in 2027. Additionally, Philadelphia will\u00a0retain\u00a050% of\u00a0Hathaway\u2019s\u00a0Standard Player Contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cGarnet is\u00a0a physical and highly competitive player who will\u00a0complement\u00a0our group well,\u201d said Zito. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to add his veteran presence to\u00a0our group for the upcoming season.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hathaway, 34, skated in 66 games with Philadelphia in 2025-26 where he led the Flyers with 252 hits, the ninth most among all NHL skaters last season, and produced three points (1-2-3).\u00a0He was also Philadelphia\u2019s\u00a0nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy\u00a0and produced two points (1-1-2) over eight Stanley Cup Playoff contests.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 6-foot-2, 212-pound native of Naples, Fla., has appeared in 672 NHL games\u00a0over the past 11 seasons with Philadelphia (2023-24 to 2025-26), the Boston Bruins (2022-23), Washington Capitals (2019-20 to\u00a02022-23) and Calgary Flames (2015-16 to 2018-19), amassing 163 points (76-87-163), a plus-45 rating and 739 penalty minutes.\u00a0He\u00a0has ranked in the top 10 in the league in hits every season since 2020-21, and in that span ranks second in the NHL with 1,532 hits.\u00a0In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Hathaway\u00a0has logged\u00a0eight points (4-4-8) over 39 career games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Undrafted, Hathaway played four\u00a0NCAA\u00a0seasons (2010-11 to\u00a02013-14) with the Brown University Bears, compiling 58 points (20-38-58) over 121 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
