VR Games Showcase Summer 2026: “Transformers” coming to Meta Quest<\/p>\n
Squido Studio announced during the summer edition of the VR Games Showcase that the on-rails shooter \u201cTransformers: Beyond Reality\u201d will lose its Sony exclusivity after almost four years. The new \u201cRedux\u201d version is scheduled to be released for Meta Quest this year. In addition, a Munich-based indie studio presented a cooperative extraction shooter for Meta Quest and SteamVR, and the flight simulation \u201cKorea\u201d from the IL-2 series will receive a VR mode.<\/p>\n
With \u201cDrifters: Blackout Crew,\u201d Munich-based studio Salmi Games is embarking on a significantly larger project after their last title, “Sweet Surrender.” This time, it’s set to be an extraction shooter in the style of Bungie’s \u201cMarathon\u201d<\/a> or “Arc Raiders,” but in virtual reality. A crew is stranded on a crashed mothership in space. Power is only available if players reclaim it from enemy structures. They must constantly decide whether to venture deeper for better loot or return alive and secure what they’ve collected. Studio founder Yacine Salmi explained to heise online that public funding laid the foundation for it. Initial federal funds from 2022 and 2023 enabled early prototypes, with which the team subsequently won over Meta as another investor. After the expansion of games funding in spring 2025<\/a>, additional funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media finally flowed. \u201cWithout this support, ‘Drifters’ would either be a much smaller game or it wouldn’t exist at all,\u201d said Salmi.<\/p>\n For gameplay, the team relies on typical interactions that only work in VR. Players manually reload, physically grab loot, and move using a jetpack. Collected resources go towards equipment, cosmetic customizations, and improvements to the mothership. As with their last title, “Sweet Surrender,” Salmi Games wants to closely involve the community in development through closed test phases and Discord feedback.
