Winged Luxeed S7 surfaces on IP Australia\u2019s design databaseThe News<\/p>\n

Chery<\/a> is cooking up a new electrified super sedan based on the\u00a0Luxeed\u00a0S7, and its design has just been filed with \u2013 and\u00a0subsequently\u00a0leaked by \u2013 IP Australia for local trademarking. Whether or not the winged weapon will\u00a0actually be\u00a0introduced here remains to be seen, but Chery Australia is hesitant to discuss the subject in any way.<\/p>\n

The Key Details<\/p>\n

Track-capable\u00a0Luxeed\u00a0S7 shown in local patent renders\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aggressive front splitter, side skirts,\u00a0diffuser\u00a0and huge fixed rear wing\u00a0<\/p>\n

S7 is the electric sister car of the\u00a0Exeed\u00a0Exlantix\u00a0ES\u00a0(EV\/REEV)\u00a0<\/p>\n

Renders clearly show a\u00a0charging\u00a0port cover\/fuel flap on each side\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chery Australia unwilling to discuss\u00a0<\/p>\n

Any regular readers will know by now an OEM applying to trademark a nameplate or vehicle design\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0necessarily mean that\u00a0particular model\u00a0is coming to Australia\u2026 but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0hint\u00a0that\u00a0conversations are at least being had.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chery is still a newcomer to our market\u00a0compared to the likes of Toyota and\u00a0Honda,\u00a0but that\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0stopped it launching sub-brands and spin-offs\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Omoda,\u00a0Jaecoo, Lepas \u2013 with plenty more on the horizon.<\/a><\/p>\n

Exeed\u00a0was touted as a contender for a local introduction as Chery\u2019s answer to the likes of Polestar<\/a> and\u00a0Volvo,\u00a0parked temporarily and\u00a0is\u00a0now back on the drawing board.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Chery has now done something interesting:\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0submitted\u00a0the exterior design of a winged\u00a0Luxeed\u00a0S7 \u2013 sister car to the\u00a0Exeed\u00a0Exlantix\u00a0ES and codeveloped with Huawei\u00a0\u2013 for trademarking with IP Australia.<\/p>\n

While the S7 has been available in China for a little while now, there\u2019s no record of a maximum-attack track version\u00a0as shown in the grey submission renders \u2013 the hottest version sits on identical wheels to those in the\u00a0filing, but the aero is far more aggressive than the production lip kit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For reference, the S7\u00a0Ultra\u00a0is good for 0-100km\/h in a claimed 3.3\u00a0seconds\u00a0courtesy of a 365kW\/679Nm\u00a0dual-motor powertrain, meaning\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0plenty of headroom for an all-star, track-capable halo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One interesting detail of the submitted vehicle however is the presence of two charge port covers (one on either side) when the production model only has one (on the left) side.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are two possibilities here:\u00a0the\u00a0designers were slack and missed that detail\u00a0before submission, or this\u00a0particular S7\u00a0is\u00a0a range-extender hybrid (REEV) as per its\u00a0Exlantix\u00a0ES sibling.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ES REEV outputs a maximum of 345kW\/634Nm in its most potent form, but we can\u2019t see a reason why\u00a0Luxeed\u00a0would change the S7 formula for what\u2019s likely its hottest iteration yet, especially when vehicles like the\u00a0Xiaomi SU7,\u00a0BYD\u00a0Yangwang\u00a0U7,\u00a0Zeekr\u00a0007 and NIO ET9 exist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We asked Chery Australia about the submission and were told the local operation had \u201cnothing to add\u201d on the subject.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Chery has previously suggested models from the\u00a0Exeed\u00a0portfolio could be offered in Australia\u00a0wearing either\u00a0Exeed\u00a0or Chery badges, with more recent comments revealing the premium offshoot and other sub-brands like QQ and\u00a0Fulwin\u00a0are under consideration<\/a>\u00a0for our market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Where\u00a0Exeed\u00a0is pitched a luxury marque,\u00a0Luxeed\u00a0is a more performance and tech-focused entity, with two of the biggest differences between the\u00a0Exlantix\u00a0ES and S7\u00a0siblings\u00a0being their athletic intent and the latter\u2019s integration of\u00a0Huawei\u2019s elaborate software ecosystem.\u00a0<\/p>\n
