Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The eight-year-old \u201cengineer\u201d designed a smart sleeping mask connected to a monitor which vibrates when it detects important sounds, helping people with hearing loss stay alert while they sleep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Asha\u2019s success saw her travelling to Innsbruck in Austria, home to MED-EL\u2019s global headquarters, to join fellow young inventors for a special international winners\u2019 event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">During the trip, Asha met engineers, hearing experts and MED-EL co-founder and CEO Dr Ingeborg Hochmair, while sharing ideas with fellow young inventors from around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI really enjoyed the winners\u2019 ceremony and had so much fun meeting people from all over the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Asha\u2019s mother, Genevieve Hodgson said the experience exceeded everything the family imagined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cBefore the trip, Asha knew she\u2019d won but she didn\u2019t fully understand just how big it was,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cMeeting the other children, visiting MED-EL and seeing people from all over the world come together because of hearing technology made the experience incredibly special for our whole family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">MED-EL Australia marketing and communications manager Clare Tamas said Asha\u2019s achievement was something Australia can be proud of.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWhat makes Asha\u2019s achievement so special is that her idea came from living alongside hearing loss in her own family,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cHer invention highlights some of the practical challenges people with hearing loss can face every day while also demonstrating the creativity and problem-solving skills young people can bring to those challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe hope her story not only celebrates an incredible achievement but also encourages greater awareness of hearing loss and the technologies that help people stay connected to the world around them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An eight-year-old from Cowaramup has taken her talent to the global stage with a design to help improve&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":761155,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[64,63,134,427,45],"class_list":["post-761154","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-tv","tag-wa-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/761154","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=761154"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/761154\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/761155"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=761154"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=761154"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=761154"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
