{"id":761701,"date":"2026-06-26T14:19:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T14:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/761701\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T14:19:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T14:19:11","slug":"football-lobos-continue-adding-to-the-pack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/761701\/","title":{"rendered":"Football: Lobos continue adding to the pack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lobos\u2019 recruiting department continues to score behind the scenes, helping secure six new commitments within the past week.<\/p>\n<p>As of publication, New Mexico is up to 15 total <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailylobo.com\/article\/2026\/06\/football-lobos-2027-recruiting-surge-continues-with-four-new-commitments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">commits<\/a> and counting for their 2027 recruiting class.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gunner Edwards, Defensive Line<\/p>\n<p>Edwards, a three-year starter at Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas, announced his commitment to the University of New Mexico on June 17 via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GunnerEdwards56\/status\/2067262963052917142?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew that UNM was the school I would continue at because of how happy it made me (after my visit),\u201d Edwards said. \u201cWhat separates (UNM) is I feel like they don\u2019t really care \u2014 if you have 5 stars or 0 stars they&#8217;re gonna bring you in because they believe in you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-5, 245-pound New Mexico native held offers from North Texas and UNM\u2019s in-state rival, New Mexico State. Edwards told the Daily Lobo his decision to commit to UNM goes far beyond playing at University Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like the academics really impressed me too,\u201d Edwards said. \u201cI\u2019m not just going to play football. I\u2019m going to earn a degree and they have a great team for that as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan Macken, Tight End<\/p>\n<p>Macken became the second tight end commit for UNM alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailylobo.com\/article\/2026\/06\/football-lobos-2027-recruiting-surge-continues-with-four-new-commitments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Collin Benninger<\/a>, after announcing his commitment June 16 via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/evan_macken1388\/status\/2066989272041701512?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a>. Macken \u2014 a Coppell High School product out of Coppell, Texas \u2014 attributed<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailylobo.com\/article\/2026\/06\/football-ecks-new-era-brotherhood-belief-and-the-pursuit-of-greatness\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> the team\u2019s brotherhood<\/a> as a key aspect in his decision to commit to New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe culture surrounding the team is what really stood out to me,\u201d Macken said. \u201cSeeing how all the players interacted with each other gave me a glimpse on how they\u2019re developing, not just as football players, but men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Listed at 6-foot-6, 245-pounds, Macken earned 2nd Team All-District honors during his junior season. His mindset heading into the next chapter of his journey is one he said most should adapt \u2014 on and off the field \u2014 in order to find success.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs someone who has dealt with adversity, I\u2019m used to being told things like \u2018you can\u2019t do that\u2019,\u201d Macken said. \u201cHow you handle adversity \u2014 that dictates your success. It\u2019s easy to let that break you down, but for me, it fuels my hunger. Alexander attributed the authenticity of UNM\u2019s interest in him as a key reason in his decision to call himself a Lobo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe culture and the relationships (have been) genuine since they started recruiting me,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cThey did whatever it took to get me locked in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marquiss Murry II, Running Back<\/p>\n<p>As an LBJ Austin High School dual-athlete, Murry played both football and basketball during his junior year \u2014 tallying over 1,500 rushing yards on the field and averaging 17 points-per-game on the court \u2014 but will continue his athletic career at University Stadium, after announcing his commitment June 22 via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/marquismurry100\/status\/2069184465075654827?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat separated (UNM) from others was how they treat their players like family and they&#8217;re all about development,\u201d Murray said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Lobo faithful played a part in Murry\u2019s decision to choose New Mexico as well, comparing the same love and compassion shown in his hometown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe city loves the Lobos,\u201d Murray said. \u201cIt&#8217;s like the whole city is in love with football like my original Hometown Tyler, Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ilias Williams, Defensive Line \/ Offensive Line<\/p>\n<p>The San Jacinto High School attendee received an offer from UNM June 5, and announced his commitment to the program June 22 via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IliasW21239\/status\/2069249824764117307?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Williams, listed at 6-foot-4, 250-pounds, provides flexibility along the offensive line, having played both guard and tackle for the Tigers. His versatility doesn\u2019t stop there, as he contributed on the defensive line as well, \u00a0flourishing on both sides of the ball during his junior season.<\/p>\n<p>Ryder Molchanoff, Edge<\/p>\n<p>Molchanoff announced his commitment to New Mexico on June 18 via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Rydermolchanoff\/status\/2067686426666479999?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a>, having racked up 36 total tackles, 4 sacks and 6 tackles-for-loss during his junior season at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-4, 220-pound pass-rusher made New Mexico his destination of choice despite offers from Air Force, Army and Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>Edge Garcia is a freelance reporter for the Daily Lobo.
