The New York Knicks are reportedly set to re-sign guard Jose Alvarado on a three-year, $14-plus million contract, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.<\/p>\n

Alvarado reacted to the news in a post on X, as did Josh Hart, who appears happy to have him back in New York. Karl-Anthony Towns also reacted to the news:<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old Alvarado has played five NBA seasons after starring at Georgia Tech. The man nicknamed “Grand Theft Alvarado” for his defensive prowess and tenacity played his first four-plus seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded to the Knicks last February.<\/p>\n

During the 2025 offseason, New Orleans signed Alvarado to a two-year, $9 million contract<\/a> with a 2026-27 player option.<\/p>\n

Alvarado averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 19.9 minutes per game. He shot 41.6 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three. <\/p>\n

He gave the Knicks great energy off the bench and proved to be a valuable asset and solid midseason acquisition en route to helping New York to its first NBA title since 1973.<\/p>\n

Alvarado provided crucial minutes for the Knicks down the stretch of their amazing comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4. Alvarado hit a key layup and then a clutch three-pointer to cut the Spurs’ deficit to 104-100 en route to New York’s 107-106 win after being down 81-52 in the third.<\/p>\n

He also represented a great New York hometown story as well, as Alvarado was born in Brooklyn and went to high school at Christ the King in Queens.<\/p>\n

Now the Knicks are keeping Alvarado around longer.
